  4. Jefferson winning two games is really something

  5. 4 Huron Leauge teams in District finals....what has happened to this "weak Leauge"
Huron can't be given credit as a Good Team. The only reason Huron can win is because the Leauge is down, not because they happen to be a good team, as are the other Leauge teams in district Finals

  6. Still waiting for a score on Riverview/Robichaud along with Airport/Adrian.

  9. Riverview lost, airport lost...Jefferson has played some bad teams and Huron squeeked by yet again after being tied with terrible Trenton...sorry but the league is down

  10. well the league is weak IMO but has gotten some favorable matchups and has won the close games. Although the league is weak it did have its share of tough games that came down to the wire. I am sure that has helped CC, Jefferson and hopefully Airport eek out some close ones. Whatever the case I think the league can hold it's head high and be proud of what they have done up to this point.

  11. Huron has their days... give them a break. Sorry but Airport only beat Trenton by 5... you gonna tell me Airport is weak too although Airport was putting down 20+ point wins?.... Sorry but when it comes to it; teams will play to win. Also? Trenton isn't in the league but okay?
Flat Rock lost to Huron in the district game. So they're out. If it hadn't been for Huron and FR playing each other first in districts? FR would still be going im almost positive..

Your all saying the league is "weak"? How about you clarify what a strong league would be? Huron not going undefeated, i bet right? Everyones going off of everyone elses comments of saying the league is weak or down... well lets hear why your thinking that.. id like to know?

  14. who is SMCC supposed to beat in the state tournamnet. you are so ugh disgusting. ya they beat a c team bc that is thier size so stop disrespecting

    ReplyDelete
  15. As of cc fan, yes airport is in a veryyyy tough class, and stop disrespectin the falcons, they HAVE to plat class c

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think it is weak due it's quality of play. If you compare the league to year's past, the talent is a bit down.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I disagree that the league is down. It is what it is, the Huron League.

You have two 1,000 point scorers who both shoot near 40% from 3-point land and over 80% from the line.

You have a junior from Riverview who will surpass 1,000 ponts sometime next season.

Overall team shooting seems to be pretty solid.

Each team seems to have athletes capable of ripping the rim down.

This is an age old argument that happens every few years or so. They have gone away from the fundamentals, nobody can shoot, they don't play defense. Its the same old song and dance.

The league is pretty solid. There is star power, highlite reel dunks, long range bombs, scores in the 40's and scores in the 60's, and quality coaching.

    Give it a rest.

  18. To the comment about CC beating a class C school, SMCC is a class C school.

  19. I have talked to more than one varsity coach in the Huron who has said they believe the league is down. It is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes but we (CC) are supposed to be apologetic to the rest of the league because we get the "cream of the crop". I am sorry we have good student athletes. I feel better now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think the league is UP this year! It will be down a level next year, but was very good this year!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why did Montri keep refering to nick wilson as nick rafko in the article today. Isnt rafko his moms surname?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have been watching the Huron League for the past 25 years and this is NOT a down year in the League. The athletes keep getting bigger, faster and stronger every year. You never used to see any of the basketball players throwing down dunks like you do esp. this year. Players that shoot like Richardson, Stewart, Wetzel, Scarton (heck, Scarton shoots the ball from way beyond three point land, and he is successful from there) coaches back in the day would have never let you shoot from that far out. You match nearly any team from years past against many of the Huron League Teams today and they DON'T stand up, they didn't have the size. Especially tough is this New Boston Huron Team. I played for Huron in the mid 80's and there is no way our team then or any in the league could have beat these guys. This is a UP year if you ask me!! :)

  24. Thank you Chris.
I was getting sick of hearing everyone copying and pasting what the person above their post said just to say the "league is weak" because its not. Its full of tough competitors and great players and great match ups among the teams themselves within the league... Until someone gives up a different reason other than a team losing to one team or this team not having the streak they should, then they shouldn't be speaking on the league being weak.. If they think they can make it any "stronger" maybe they should try joining the team or coaching. lol it'd be fun to watch.

  25. To the person who talked to more than one varsity coach. Did that coach have a good season?

It has become fashionable to be critical of the league the last few years because Huron won it.

Ask any coach prior to the season and they would have said SMCC was loaded. So what happened? Did the Falcons underachieve or was their loaded team just not as good as the others?

The league is about where it usually is. You know Huron is 22-0. You can't fake that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Maybe the HL is as good/bad as it historically is. I guess the more correct statement is that the league is not as good as other leagues. When was the last state champion from the Huron League? Last regional champ? Last Mr. Basketball? Last first-team all-stater? Last D1 player?

Time will tell this year when Huron has to play in the Regional. Hopefully the result won't be like last year.

  27. Nick Rafko is Nick Wilsons deceased uncle. He was an all-state football player at SMCC from 87-88. He played his college ball at Wisconsin and won the Rose bowl in 93 I believe. He was 6'5" 230lbs and won the 100 and 200 meter dash in track and field at the Huron League meet. Rafko was a hell of an athlete and an even better friend. Nick Wilson I believe was named after him.

  28. I am by no means saying because Huron is 22-0 that the league must be weak. I am saying that from what I have seen with my own eyes that the league is not where it was maybe 10 - 15 - 20 years ago. No, the coaches I spoke with did not really say why and I didnt ask. CC probably did underachieve this year however the season is not over for them. Huron went 22-0 and that was done by winning a fair share of close games that went down to the wire. I have said on here before that you have to give it to Huron's coach, he knows how to get his kids believing they can win.

  29. and Chris you shouldnt be telling people who visit your page and have a something to say about the league to "give it a rest". As long as they dont make personal attacks or use foul language, why shouldnt your readers be allowed to say the league is weak or down. The opinion of one person is no more important than the opinion of another. Especially when 90% of your readers are allowed to post as anonymous as I am now. Your "give it a rest" comment bothers me. Maybe you should kill it because you are clearly taking things too personal and disregard too often what might be legitimate simply because you dont agree. Which is wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like the fact that people are talking about the league in general but not many people are giving solid arguments as to why the league is down. They offer opinions.

I have the same conversation on here and on the street. People can't give a specific reason as to why they think the league is down.

They say things like, I've been around the league for 25 or 30 years and its as down as I have ever seen". I consider that an opinion.

An argument for the league being down would be; shooting % are down, the league struggled in the non-conference games, their isn't much size, many of the schools played underclassman, too many novice coaches. Stuff like that.

Rah rah stuff isn't making an argument. Using reason and facts to construct an argument is.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I look at the overall talent of an individual or team. My opinon is that the talent isnt where it was 10-20 years ago. Believe it or not Chris stats can be misleading. If I were playing against you Chris I could hit 50% of my shots but if I were playing against kobe Bryant I may hit 20% of my shots. Stats dont tell the whole story.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree that stats can be misleading but they can be used to construct a solid argument or a poor one.

I'll give you an example. You used stats to contruct an argument but you used arguably the best player in the NBA and probably the worst player in the metropolous of Waltz to make a your point. Hardly fair to compare a perenial NBA All Star to a "never was" when I am comparing 16,17,18 year old players from the Huron League to well, 16,17,18 year old players from the Huron League.

So why don't you give it another shot as to why one might think the league is down while I continue to say the league is right where it always is and back it up with a solid argument. It's funny though, the burden of proof isn't on me.:)

Or you can choose to give it a rest.

P.S. It would sure be nice to know who I am jousting with. (feel free to send an email)

  33. Hey Chris what do you think about Stockert's dunk against Trenton?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I thought it was great. Two feet, two hands in traffic. It kinda put an exclamation point on the 18-0 run.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You are jousting with the bloodynutter.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ah, good to hear from you.

Let me make a suggestion then. Concede to me my basketball point and I will concede to you all football arguments:) By the way, you wouldn't shoot 50% on me and I'm pretty sure I would score at will on you:)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just think the level of play lets say throughout 90's was much better than the level of play currently. I would say the best teams of those years would beat the best team this year and so on. Pick any year from the 90's and Huron wouldnt beat the champ. Pick the runner up from any of those years and this years runner up wouldnt fair well at all. and so on and so on........ I personaly think this year's Airport team(which was considered at one point the 2nd best team in the league by many) is a shadow of what they use to put out in the mid to late 90's.

    ReplyDelete
  38. All my football arguements???? DEAL!

    ReplyDelete
  39. By the way no St. John Waltz guy is going to score at will vs. a Monroe St. John guy!!!

  40. Chris you were the one that said the leaugue was down, remember the post on:

    Down Year in the League?
Is this a down year in the Huron League?

Currently the league is 13-21 in non-league play. Not real impressive. Two teams haven't won a game yet and two others only have one win.

How that for a argument using stats.

Most of the leagues wins vs. non leagues team are vs. very bad teams. i.e. Trenton,Erie Mason,Carlson

  41. Glad your with me on the weak league comments Chris lol bout time we've met head to head on something on this blog :P

btw; Chris arent you a track coach?

  42. Nice play Bloody Nutter using my own words against me. I can with great confidence say those words were spoken over 2 months and 15 games ago. Do you think things can change in that time period?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I like how everyone keeps referencing how terrible Trenton is when they very nearly beat a 21-0 team in their gym.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Trenton is terrible!!!!!!!!!!
    1-20 is terrible!!!!!!!!!!
Only win is vs. a huron league team!!!!!!!!
Huron struggled with Trenton, may be Huron is not that good after all!!!!!!!!!
May be Huron won because of a weak schedule and very bad league!!!!!!!!!!
Huron would go .500 in the downriver league!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. SMCC won 58-56, last second 3 point shot by shinevarre. Good game.

  46. KC,
