10 of the 11 players on the Waltz team scored against Flat Rock - and the majority were on layups because FR continually didn't get back on D....no attention to playing D seems to be the norm for the FR program these days!!
He is playing in the Downriver League 7th grade league this year and will focus on track when the season ends. We put together a team with 3 St. John Waltz kids, 3 from St Stephens in New Boston, 3 from Geresch Middle School in Southgate, 1 from Renton Junior High in New Boston and 1 from Bronwsntown Middle School. We also have former Flat Rock All Stater Dave Clum coaching them. It has worked out nice. My son gets to play with some kids who he'll probably play high school ball with and he gets to meet some kids from other cities.
The AAU experience was fun but a logistics nightmare. We never knew ahead of time when and where we were playing. We would spend our entire weekend in a gym somewhere mostly watching and waiting for our kids to play.
The Downriver League is played every Sunday at Annapolis High School. We play two games a day and never have to wait more than 1 game to play. We play 14 games in 7 weeks and the cost is literally half of what we payed for AAU.
The experience that a player gains is excellent and I would recommend it for anyone. With my St. John's team this year you could really tell who played AAU or Travel and who didn't.
My son played in the 7th Grade Downriver League this past year and I'd like to get my other children involved this upcoming year. However, I cannot find any information online (websites, etc.) for this league. Can anyone help?
How many did the Southgate kids score? Or do we not talk about that?
ReplyDeleteI posted our scores and I didn't list any scorers. I'm not sure what your looking for. Our roster?

ReplyDeleteHey Chris, does your son still play on that AAU team? I remember reading the story when your blog first began. Wondered how that ended up?
