Huron's Dream Season Ends

Huron fell tonight 41-36 to Detroit Douglas in the semi-final game hosted by Riverview. The PSL Southwest Division champs used their quickness, size and an effective matchup zone to neutralize the Chief's leading scorer Zac Richardson.

Huron trailed 13 -12 at the end of the first quarter and the game was tied 21-21 at the half. Douglas pressed most of the first half but were unable to gain an advantage.

In a surprising move Hurricane coach Nkwane Young switched to a matchup zone in the 2nd half. Huron was held to only 1 point in the 3rd quarter but Douglas was only able to build a 3 point lead at the end of three quarters.

Douglas controlled most of the 4th quarter but were never able to build a lead larger than six points. Huron used some opportunistic plays and timely freethrow shooting to get themselves back to within three points with 8 seconds to play and the ball in their posession. Jim Kalbfleisch ran a nice play for Richardson in an attempt to tie the game on a three point attempt but his shot fell short.

Dave Stockert led the Chiefs with 15 points as the Chiefs finished with the best record in school history at 23-1. Detroit Douglas moves to the Regional Final on Wednesday and improves to 18-5 on the season.

  3. Richardson got packed a couple times and threw up untimely airballs. Stockert did well in the post however, and corbeil hit a big three.

  4. Richardson 0-19
    Stockert 5-9
Why would Huron only let Stockert shot 9 times?
That was Hurons mistake, they only relied on one player to do it all. Again one player had almost half the shots for the team. Get the ball in the post.

  5. If the Huron coach would have let the other kids on the team shot the ball during the season, Huron would have won that game. Thats what happen when 1 kid shots half of the teams shots.
    Just saying

  6. Its a bummer that everyone is going to bash and remember Z for last night. The kid had a great season and is a great kid.. it's just like last year when we had a great year but inkster handed it to us and that is what we are remembered for.

  7. I hate when people come on here and don't no what there talking about I will make this quick. Half time the score was 21-21 and zac had not scored a point. At the end of the game with about 10 seconds left we where down by 2 points and zac still had not scored. So what the heck are you talking about.Huron went 23-1 because they play great team ball.Look at how close they came to winning with out zac scoreing a point thats great team BB.Do you think anyone else in the league could take there leading score out and still stay a couple points behind. As far as zac he has won so many games for huron when it came to the 4th so many game winning shots.Every shooter has cold days even the pro's .But what seperates a great player is how often you have those cold games. And zac went 23 games before he had a cold game.I have not seen anyone in the league come close to going that long before they have a night where the ball just wont drop.I do beleave if more coaches in the huron league coached more team ball and each kid knowing what his job is on that team that the huron league would of been a little tighter.

  8. i really dont think its right for people to be bashing Z. Richardson after he had one off night. Look at everyone else, im sure they had at least one bad night. I played ball with Zac in grade school, hes a great kid Huron went 23-1 why not give congrats to them rather then pick apart a kid that had a bad night?

Are you just on here because your board because you sure seem lost in what your talking about. What do you think douglas did not defend stockert we always try to give him the ball.If he's open we give it to him.He had two 6-5 guys on him all night. He did what he could do and did a pretty good job.Zac's shots just wouldn't fall it happens.Zac has a night like that maybe 1 out of 23.Most shooters in the huron league have a night like that every 1 out of 5.check maxpreps stats if you don't beleave me.Thats what seperates him from the rest.
    To 1:00
You must be talking about Fr because huron has more players who score points then any other team.Look at maxpreps below huron has 5 or 6 guys in the top 25 no other team in huron league has that many players. So no what your saying before you post thanks.

  10. Before any more people want to talk about what a 23-1 team could have done better. Or what a coach who has more wins in BB then all the huron league coaches combined.Read the article the detroit news did on the game last night. The news sports writer and the douglas coach talk about the chiefs and zac.And i think you will see how much they are both respected in high school BB.

  11. GI also has 5 in the top 25, so maybe you should know what you are saying before you post.

  13. SORRY but my point to 1:00 was that i think the coach let the other kids shoot the ball.No one else has more then 5 kids in the top 25 hows that.

  15. your pathetic chris i post a comment about the people at huron and what they said to scarton, and you deny it because you dont want huron to look bad.

  16. I am suppose to post a comment about something you say two middle-aged men said to someone?

I can I verify that the comments are true?

I've chosen not to post many comments that have been written all season because I can't verify whether they happened or not.

I have also chosen not to post comments that I know are true but I didn't feel that had a relavance to the games.

Go make that post on mlive.

Also, send me an email and I will give you a nice detailed explanation. You won't because you want to remain anonymous.;)

  17. The comment and what people from Huron have said to Scarton? Last I've seen on here? A few Huron fans have congratulated Scarton on his 1k points and also have said nothing negative about Scarton to make huron look bad besides that he shoots most of his team..which is true. Attack Chris all you want? But your not going to prove nothing here. Its all said and done and all Huron league teams are out of regionals. and their seasons are over with. Save your beathe for next year when your word for your team might mean something?

  18. I think it's funny how you say nobody from Huron has bashed Scarton, because it's all over "formspring.me" Go look up Scarton and you'll see a variety of people "bashing" him. I've defended him on numerous occasions, because I know how good of a player he is, and I don't even go to his school.
