2009-10 Final Thoughts

I thought the league was very athletic this year.

While the debate rages on, the Huron league was no better or no worse than the recent past.

Three district championships for the league isn't bad.

It doesn't look like there will be any coaching changes prior to next year.

The stars of the Huron League this year look like they will be headed to Division III or NAIA schools next year.

No matter how you slice it you win championships with seniors and defense.

When you win, its talent. When you lose, its coaching.

  9. Jim Kalbfleisch, coach of New Boston Huron, named A.P. class B coach of the year, but doesn't get voted coty in his own league. That's embarrassing for the Huron League and especially the other Huron League coaches who snubbed him.

    Congratulations Jim!

  12. Anyone see the paper today? Roecker said he is the good cop. And by the way sellers sure waited a while before having kids. Holy smokes.

  13. Coach of the year in a league has a different criteria than COTY statewide.

True the sports writers don't meet at the Big Bear lodge.Shut up 20-0 in the regular season state and regional coach of the year. And he doe's not get it in his own league.plus the coach that did get it in the league was not even a HM the milan and smcc coach where. That is sick and shows you that some grown men who coach huron league BB are up to no good. And thats who's leading are kids.

  18. To the poster from March 30th 5:38 PM your an idiot. The reason that Riverviews coach wasnt an honorable mention in the monroe news is because he coaches RIVERVIEW,WHICH IS NOT IN MONROE COUNTY YOU IDIOT!

  19. Hurons not in monroe county IDIOT!with that said did he get HM any where but the fixed huron league.

  20. Just an FYI; Flat Rock, Huron and Milan have parts of their school district in Monroe County. That is why they are covered by the newspaper.

  21. Maybe the Riverview coach won the vote based on the fact that 1. Huron was the favorite to win the League. 2. Riverview was picked to fininsh 4th through last place depending on who you talk with. 3. Huron did what was expected & 4. Riverview surpassed all expectations except that of the team.
With that said, did some bias come into play with the COTY voting, probably. Are the Huron League coaches buddy - buddy ? Do or did they have a hidden agenda against the Huron coach?
Best way for the Huron Coach to redeem himself is by outcoaching the other coaches and teams of the League without a ton of talent next year. Or Huron can keep kicking, moaning and groaning about it and lose sight of the big picture.

    My picks for next year:

    HL MVP ; Brad Stewart

    1. Riverview - They are gonna be fast and run against teams. Lots of size as well. Kowalski and Haube should limit teams to 1 shot with solid rebounding. Then there is Stewart, enough said. Teams will be forced to shoot from the outside. (13-1)

    2. Milan- Another fast team, they could give Riverview a hard time, but a lack of size is cause for concern. (11-3)

    3. Airport- A good shooting team. Not as fast as Milan and Riverview, but could pose problems for them with their 3 shooting. Davoun Posey will lead the Jets. (9-5)

    4. SMCC- Another team that shoots well from the perimeter. Alot depends on the upcoming class of players. Can Shinavarre make an impact?(8-6)

    5. Huron- Too many holes to plug from a senior heavy 2009-2010 squad, yet still good enough to beat the rest of the league on any given night. Nick Corbeil and Jesse Wint should standout for the Chiefs. (7-7)

    6. Grosse Ile- 2nd year coach should have his team next year. Athletic and some shooters. Tim Sassack , Josh Gaudette , and Rob White should all contribute.(6-8)

    7. Jefferson- Another young team. Could be a long year for them. Lack of size and speed. Jake Sterling and Dustin Carmack should lead the Bears.(3-11)

    8. Flat Rock- Afraid the cupboard is bare here. Tim Cottongim will have his hands full trying to lead the Rams next year. (1-13)

  22. Airport 3rd?? Maybe I'm wrong but aren't they going to lose all their best players to graduation?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes Airport was senior heavy this year, but from what maxpreps has they have 4 decent juniors still. But if I was the person that listed I would switch Huron and Airport around.

Or Maybe even have also put SMCC at 3 (if that Shinavarre guy on the JV team shoots like crazy and drain 'em), and Huron at 4 (if these kids really, really want to win another district and their league)

I know that Shinavarre on the JV team can shoot because my team went into 4 overtimes with them and if it wasn't for him that we probably would have won it.

    -Anonymous from Riverview team.

  24. Anonymous from April 3 6:41pm, I think you're thinking of Beste, he's a SMCC JV player who can shoot like crazy. Shinavarre is awesome but he's on Varsity already.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes, Anonymous you are right. His name is Jake Beste. He can shoot the 3. There is no Shinevarre on smcc JV.
