Grosse Ile 51 Jefferson 44
Huron 61 Flat Rock 58 OT
(H)Richardson 29 (FR)Conner 25 Scarton 19
Recap: Great game! Huron brings out the best in Flat Rock and close games brings out the best in Huron. Joe Conner nearly stole the show but fouled out in regulation. Richardson and Scarton took over when necessary and it was fun to watch those two battle. Flat Rock held a 41-32 advantage late in the 3rd. Huron eventually tied it at 42 and it was a barn burner the rest of the way. I look forward to their rematch in districts. Huron clinched their 2nd straight outright Huron League title with the come from behind win.
Jets win by 10. 64-54. Smcc had a 1 point lead going into halftime. They started out the 3rd qrt awful and all of a sudden airport was up by 7. Airport was up 5 with like 1:05 left and smcc started fouling. Edmond Shinevarre had a phenominal game with 30 pts. Airport looked improved since the last time I saw them play. Baker had 25 while Jones had 19. Wetzel added 12 for smcc.

Congratulations to Huron for their back to back Huron League Championships! Hats off to Flatrock, they played a good game and gave Huron a run for their money.
ReplyDeleteOnce again Spencer Smith steps up and hold another great scorer to only 12pts.
ReplyDeleteShinevarre could not miss, he had 8 3's. I think he only missed 4 times in the whole game.
ReplyDeleteAIRPORT STILL BEAT THEM BY 10.
Please Hammer don't hurt them!!!!
huron better look out for airport... 5 in a row looking very solid. should be a beauty to see...
ReplyDeleteHow does Huron almost lose to Flat Rock every time, Flat Rock is not that good.
ReplyDeleteMIGHT CHIEFS!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the Huron boys for thier back to back league championships, and thier win tonight. I do not care about the points or stats tonight, I only want these boys to know that thier hard work and dedication is paying off. They need to keep playing tough and finsh thier season the best team they can be.
ReplyDeleteI do not care if they played 30 seconds or the entire game, I am equally proud of all of them. I am proud to call myself a chief and I am so very very proud of all the boys.
Keep up your hard work. I just want you to know how proud I am of all of you!!
Love, Mrs. G
ya the jets got a 5 game win streak but what about Huron's 18 game streak??
ReplyDeletewell riverview will beat airport this friday
ReplyDeleteAs a Flat Rock Alumni I never ever lost to Huron in basketball..and they've lost 5 GAMES n a ROW..what is that all bout? what is going on n the da ROCK??????????? I am starting to feel lke a bum..like a chief..
ReplyDeleteFlat Rock blows 9 point lead..don't you win with good guards? don't the have the best point guard in the league? What is the DEAL?????
ReplyDeleteSMCC vs Airport was an awesome game start to finish. Shinnevarre from CC played the best game of his life going about 8-10 from 3, Baker was 11-12 from the line and 3-3 on 3's in the second half of a close game along with 10 rebounds. Spencer Smith took Wetzel completely out of the picture, his point came on 2 buckets from somewhere people shouldnt even have to worry about playing defense at and two put backs on a team where hes 5 inches taller than anyone on the floor for the jets. Shinnevarre kept it close but got just about zero help from anyone besides Wetzel who played a sub par game for him. Point is the Jets are rolling and I expect that to continue Friday when the play the Bucs, there just playing too well right now. Keep in mind that they were up 30 on the same FR team that Huron was down 11 to at the end of the 3rd, they may not be the best team because that is Huron, but they are playing the best RIGHT now. And RIGHT now is all that will matter when the two meet up March 4th. Dont be shocked if Huron enters district play with one loss coming to MIGHTY JETS of AIRPORT.
ReplyDeleteLike a bum? like a chief? Your cool bud. You should feel like a bum talking trash. I'd love to see you play against this Huron team. Your alumini might've been a few years back and this might've been the first game you've seen of huron, but Flat Rock isnt good. Their defense is horrible hence why the lost their lead. And also Huron has there second back to back league championship. Where was your lague championship when you played tough nut? My point exactly. Now unto tonights games. Good games to all teams. Huron showed why they are league champions. Usually any team thats behind 9 points usually doesn't come up long as the team in the lead plays hard and good defense. Hurons offense was better than FR defense. And it shows hence why they lost this game. Good tough game though.
ReplyDeleteThe Huron and Airport game is the game all are waiting for. Airport comes to play the next 2 games against teams they lost to earlier in the season. Airport might not want to get too hyped up and big of heads because they lost once to both Huron and Riverview and they can lose again. Airport has been on a roll Since their loss to riverview, and I will give them that. Hopefully they keep it together. I'm still a die hard Huron fan. Keep it up boys! Finish strong!
KC
Please stop riding airport. Hurons Gona win. Too much speed and size
ReplyDeleteStop riding Huron they are squeaking past teams that Airport has been beating by a good 20 the second time around its a new Airport team.... Huron will have to play well
ReplyDeleteI was at the game also and could not believe now bad the officials were for both teams. Somebody would be knocked down nothing was call then somebody would be barely be touched and they would blow the whistle. Seemed as the game went on it got worst. Both coaches were not looking happy with the call's.
ReplyDeleteLooks like SMCC is going to have it's first losing season in a very long time. If you check the record books I am pretty sure that Coach Lauwers only had 3 losing seasons in his entire career. WOW, how the once mighty have fallen. SMCC sure don't play defense like they use to.
ReplyDeleteSMCC CAN FINISH THE SEASON @ 10-10 HOLD ON BIG SHOOTER
ReplyDeleteFor 9:39 looks like your an expert on smcc bb. Your right they should get rid of windham now.
ReplyDeleteHuron isn't squeaking by. Go watch the games. The teams Huron is versing [FR for example] are putting up tough fights. Huron's playing their game regardless of what they win by. Huron is still winning. It isn't a new Airport team. Same Airport team, just working harder. You gonna tell me last time Huron and Airport played? That Huron "squeaked" by with an 8 pt. win over the Jets? Yeah. I don't think so. Unless its by a point, there's no squeaking. Let huron play their game and Airport play theres. Airport still has 2 games left. They can lose. ;)
ReplyDeleteTo the above mentioned Flat Rock Alumni- Times are a changing in New Boston. Of all the Huron League teams, Huron probably has the classiest group of student athletes on their basketball roster. Good kids who play hard and know how to win. Give them credt, where credit is due. Flat Rock plays hard in all three sports, as you know they just don't have the numbers/quality athletes to successfully compete in the Huron League on a yearly basis.
ReplyDeleteBe proud of Flat Rock, and the Huron League. People say the league is down, but I disagree. Look at the talent on each team this year. Then look at last year, and next year. The league is pretty darn competitive- and even jefferson competes. Each team has a player that would have played or been a star on your team or any Huron League teams of the past. I will name them for you.
Zac Richardson-Huron
Mike Kowalski-Rivervi
Brandon Boring-Jefferson
CJ Luvene-Milan
Dex Teen-GI
Tyler Baker-Airport
Andrew Scarton-FR
Keenan Wetzel-MCC
Yes, it's still MCC to me as well.
*Old School FR ALUM*
Just seen the paper Airport was 20 of 23 on free throws central 0 for 1. Great free throw shooting by the jets. Good game
ReplyDeleteplayer of the year... you gotta atleast put tyler baker on the list. 1st in assists and 4th in rebounds as a gaurd to go along with great handling and a decent shot. Lets turn away from all the stats and just watch a game or two of his. Only player in the huron league that could possibly compete at the college level besides scarton.
ReplyDeletehey huron fans....congrats on 2 league wins...yes the league is down compared to other years. facts: flat rock has won 15 districts, most in the region. How many has huron won? win that many and you can beat your chest all you want. during mangin's years and 4 district winners, this years huron team would not beat any of those teams and some of the others. His teams played defense. defense wins. You have a nice team in the last 2 years, but you played no where near the competition those teams played. That is just fact.
ReplyDeleteBaker doesn't lead the league in assist. Not all the players stats are listed below.
ReplyDeleteFacts are based on results from situations that have happened.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a fact that the teams of the past would beat the teams of today.
Quit living in the past, this blog is not about how good Flat Rock was during Mangin's years.
Baker does lead the leauge in assists the only teams that isnt down there is SMCCs that would have a chance of passing him... and nobody on CC's team gets more
ReplyDeleteI am an mcc old timer my grandson asked about coach lauwers records. He is second in the state in career wins. His first year he was 5-12 and he has had more than 3 losing seasons. nothing has changed people like to jump on coaches who they think are not doing a good job.
ReplyDeleteAll teams could live in the past except Huron.
ReplyDeleteFlat Rock better with Mangin.
Riverview better with Hawley.
Milan better with Tarrant.
Jefferson better with Wiley.
SMCC better with Lauwers.
Airport better with Marlow.
Grosse Ile better with Bechard.
Only Huron can say they are at there best right now with the current cast of players and there current coach. We should let them enjoy there success. We all know there struggles in the past. Kabby and the crew deserve our respect.
Good luck to All.
I just watched the GI vs. Jefferson game on Tuesday and I have to say that it is too early to say that Wiley or Bechard are better than Scharf or Freel.
ReplyDeleteJefferson has NO talent. Oley is ok, but he shoots 20 times a game and averages 14. Is that really good? Wiley had a lot more talent during the years that he was in town. John is doing a very fine job with what he was given.
GI has just a little bit more talent than Jefferson. Not much. Bechard's teams were loaded. They had the most dominant player in the league for 2 years in a row in Lonnie Pugh.
In my opinion, GI and Jefferson don't even have an all-league player on their teams.
Good points on Jefferson and GI.
ReplyDeleteI also think your spot on with Friel. I really think they have their coach. He will win there. I'll call him a young Glen Bagnell. Hopefully he will be there a while. I'm pretty sure he can handle the stuff that goes on over there. He is an Islander through and through.
That is exactly what I was getting at. It is a combination of talent and coaching that comes together. I was stating if you want to live in the past that every team except Huron has been better in the past. So let's give Huron the credit they deserve for there present day accomplishments.
ReplyDeleteIf you live in the past. All teams except Huron have had better teams than they do now. I was not be critical of any coach.
Good Luck to All
