Airport scored 24 points in the opening quarter in rout to a 16 point lead and cruised to a 69-49 win over defenseless Flat Rock.
Daniel Jones scored 16 points including 4 three pointers while Jimmie Fiddler scored 14. The Jets led 41-17 at half time and stretched the lead to 57-29 at the end of three.
Andrew Scarton tossed in 18 for Flat Rock, half of which came in the 4th quarter while the Airport starters were taking the rest of the evening off. Scarton did have a nice two foot left handed dunk in the 4th.
The win improves Airport to 5-5 in the league and 8-7 overall. Flat Rock falls to 5-5 in the league and 6-9 overall.
The highlite of the night for me was the Airport pep bands rendition of Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville during the halftime festivities.
On another note it was nice to see fellow St. John's Waltz member Jeremy Pidgeon score 9 points in the game on three long range bombs.
Sure Airport has good shooters in baker and Jones, but you cant win without the blue-collar players like Spencer Smith who give you 150% every second there on the court!
ReplyDeleteKyle Johnson came of the bench and scored 8 points. Can anybody say SPARKPLUG!
ReplyDeleteSpencer Roecker proved that after this wonderful performance by his team that he is a legitimate Huron league coach of the year candidate baby!
ReplyDeleteHaha come on chris you seriously liked Airports rendition of Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville? Come on the band is awful and you know it. They bomb the national anthem everygame which makes my gut wrench.
ReplyDeleteThere is an undefeated team in the league, a team that a few years ago struggled to win 3 or 4 league games. Have no fear though, Airport's coach will swoop in and win C.O.T.Y. Kabby wins in a lock.
ReplyDeleteFlat Rock looked terrible..regression..nice article on the evening news!
ReplyDeleteKabby was coach of the year last year.. With the turn around at Milan I would vote for their new coach for coach of the year.
ReplyDeleteI said it earlier if Flat Rock would defend like they use too they would be a much better team. Defense wins ... Oh if you have not heard.... DEFENSE WINS!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAirport is playing the best in the league right now. Beat GI by 36, Up by 32 in the 3rd quarter at Jefferson, Up by 30 in the 4th vs. FR. There starters only play about 5 min. after half time.
ReplyDeleteMilans coach didn't make the turn around. Their transfers did.
ReplyDeleteThey transfered because of the coach! They had transferes last year too and they still only won 2 games. Quinn Coleman was a transfer last year. Milan has been getting lincoln for years, now that they are good its an issue.
ReplyDeleteLast year, know one said Huron won because they had two tranfers on there team. Ray Reed was a transfer from Romulus and Blake Clairborne was from Detroit.
Milan has always had a good supply of talent. the last 2 D-1 players out of the league came from Milan. Bill Eaddy and Aaron White. Yes I know Everingham came out of GI. The new coach has mad his mark there and if the old coach was there they surely would not be as good as they are right now.
ReplyDeleteGreat article
ReplyDeletehttp://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=oneil_dana&id=4920019#
wow flat rock hahahaha, they are GREAT
ReplyDeleteActually Ive heard a lot of ppl say that, some on this blog lol.
ReplyDeleteBlake Clairborne was actually living in the area and had moved here. Didn't just up and say "Hmmm I want to go to Huron just for sports" but good job throwing him in there. Ray Reed was going to huron the year before that as well if I'm not mistaken before Huron was going good. These transfers just transfered THIS YEAR to follow a coach.... Blake and Ray didn't follow no one. And they're[milan] not good, the transfers are good. Take away the transfers and you have a not so good Milan team. No one is dogging Milan about being good just saying its not the entire Milan team, its their transfer kids. And actually yes someone did say Huron only won due to Ray Reed in previous comments.
ReplyDeleteairport is on an absolute tear.. maybe not against the best teams in the league but flat rock is no pushover. They lost most of their games in close 4th quarter nail-biters. Fridays game Airport vs. Milan will show which team is actually legit. Should be a good one to go to
ReplyDeleteand you forgot to mention that scarton also missed the same jam on a wide open attempt, but hes 5"9 so i give him props
What the league looks like right now... in my mind
ReplyDelete1.Huron- Undefeated
2.Riverview- Depends on if they show up or not..
3/4. Airport/Milan- we will see who the number three is tomorrow
5.Flat Rock- Can be very good or very very bad
6.SMCC- based solely on they have a better play in Kenan
7.Grosse Ile- Bad...
8.Jefferson- Disgusting to Watch sometimes
Shooting Guards-
1. Zak Richardson- he averages 21.7 points per game and 3.4 steals. He is best player on best team.
2. Brad Stewart- he has shot 133 free throws this year... second in the league is Richardson shooting 82 this season... and Stewart is 75% from line so he makes it count most of the time...
3. Daniel Jones- Averages about 2.5 threes per game is shooting about 35 to 40 percent from the three point line as well... averages 2.1 steals a game so he instinctive on the Defensive End... averages 15.8 points a game
4. Andre Duffin- Scores a lot of points and when he gets a break he is going to stuff it and stuff it hard... So when your playing him you would be better off letting someone else steal it
Other Good Ones- Jeremy Pidgeon Airport, Tim Cottangim Flat Rock, C.J. Luvene Milan, Dex Teen Grosse Ile
Point Guards-
1. Andrew Scarton- averages just about 21 points a game... averages a little over 3.5 assists a game... He also averages at least 3 threes a game...He can also dunk at 5'9 which is extemely impressive...
2. Tyler Baker- Averages 12.1 points a game while directing Airports long range offense... He leads the league in assists with 4.1 per game... He is also 4th in th league in Rebounding averaging 7 a game behind 3 big men... Plays hard on both ends
3. Edmond Chinevarre- He distributes the ball pretty well to one of the best if not the best shooter in the league Kenan Wetzel... He can shoot as well which gives teams something else to focus on
Other Good Ones- Caleb Tavtigian Huron, Mac Nussbaum Grosse Ile
Forwards-
1. Kenan Wetzel- He can hit 3 after 3 and after that he will hit more 3's... pure shooter
2. Spencer Smith- My vote for hardest working player in the league... He guards Wetzel, he guards Richardson, he guards Scarton better then anyone in the league... I bet it was Smith who held Scarton to 8 points through 3 on Tuesday
3. Will Brennan- Averages 5.7 rebounds a game... 5.3 points a game... he works very hard for the best team in the league
4. Jimmy Fidler- Averages 9 points a game second on Airports team in rebounds behind Baker... Good shooter as well
Big Men-
1. David Stockert- 3rd in the league in rebounding with 8.3 a game... he scores about 11 a game... He does most of the Dirty work for Huron... Also averages 3 blocks a game which is first in the league
2. Mike Kowalski- Second in the league in blocking with 2.1 a game... Averages about 7 points a game... Leads the league in Rebounds with 10.3 a game.. He cleans up Brad Stewarts Misses Often... that is if Stewart does miss
3. Mike Oley- 2nd in the league in rebounding with 9.2 per game... Averages 12 points a game... Just about the only player worth anything on Jeffersons team
Other Good Ones- Devon Posey Airport
no props
ReplyDeleteGood call! InABox
ReplyDeleteThats about right
I agree with the Baker comment. He probably isnt a better player than Scarton, but then again Scarton plays one sports while Baker is a 3 sport all league/region selection. He rebounds assists plays defense and doesnt force shots and has been on a tear lately. And thank you for the comment about Spencer smith, he gets no love because he doesnt score but he contributes by holding the other teams best scorer in check. and Devan Posey is far and away the most athletic kid in the league doesnt make him the best player but nobody jumps like he does. With that if I had to take any one kid in the league to start a team around i'd have to say that is Scarton. Nobody handles the ball like that kid and hes just so quick it makes it very hard to keep him in front of you.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick a team for next year it would be
ReplyDeletePG Edmond Shinevarre
SG Brad Stewart
SF Andre Duffin
PF Will Breenan
C Mike Kowalski
Bench. Robbie White, Devin Posey, Dan Harras, Torrin Wetzel, also a few player from Huron can't think of there names but they play HARD.
If I can only pick one give me Kowalski
