Barring a major collapse Huron should win their 2nd straight league title.
Riverview looks like they should be a solid league contender next season.
Milan's youth is starting to show.
Brad Stewart sure gets to the line a lot.
SMCC seems to be finding their comfort zone with the new coach.
Where was Dex Teen Friday?
Flat Rock is playing like the team many thought they would be this year.
Airport has a lot of offensive weapons in the line up now.
Will Huron lose a game in the league or will they run the table?
Teen did not play Friday because of a knee injury.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your thoughts and to answer your 2 questions chris, Dex was non existent and I have a feeling Huron will run the table. It will be interesting to see what Huron can do when districts come around.
ReplyDeleteHey Chris which Huron team do you think is better, the 08-09 or 09-10 team?
A few of my thoughts.
ReplyDelete1. WOW what Huron has done over 2 seasons is really impressive. I am happy for them I remember all the years when they really struggled.
2. I have said it all year. Riverview is very solid program. From Hawley to JJ they continue to put a solid product on the floor.
3. Nice win for SMCC against Milan. But let's not forget alot of us thought SMCC would contend for the league title. They have a huge challenge in front of them for Coach and team to be on the same page.
4. It is good to see a solid season for Milan. The days of them struggling to compete seem like a long, long time ago. Good for them.
5. I bet Friel is feeling the heat on the island. Even though the talent is lacking and he is doing all he can. The spoiled parents on the island will run him off as they do all their coaches. And that is to bad.
6. Airport is about where we all thought they would be. But didn't they use to compete for the league title years ago? I would say football is #1 and it is hard to get a commitment on the basketball court.
7. Defense.... If Flat Rock played defense like they did in the days of Mangin this years team is talented enough to win more games. But offense is more fun and easier to teach
8. Man let's hope Jefferson can find a way to win one league game. The bears use to play with an attitude under there old coach I am not sure they have the same confidence and expectations.
Good luck the rest of the way... It has been fun so far.
baseball is airports #1 by far
ReplyDeleteWhy does any particular sport have to be #1?
ReplyDeletewho is will Brennan on the chiefs he put up the same stats as david stockert last game?
ReplyDeleteI enjoy blogging it is alot of fun.
ReplyDeleteHow did Milan lose to SMCC. It seems anyone in the league can beat anybody. Lots of D-R-A-M-A in the Huron league this year eh!
ReplyDeleteWill Brennan is a Junior who I think was Hurons best player on JV last year. A stong inside and outside player who rebounds well. You will hear plenty about him next year and he should be a 1st Team All Huron League Player.
ReplyDeleteDon't say anyone Anon @ 9:21AM. New Boston Huron has not been beaten nor will they!
ReplyDeleteMighty Chiefs!!
Let me tell you all something, Huron could play their entire bench and give anyone in the league a good run. The following 5 BENCH guys will hang with any starting 5 in the league.
ReplyDeleteZachary Page G (plays alot like Richardson it's a mystery why he don't start or get more time)
Pat Clark G (good shooter, good ball handler will be extremely tough next year)
Justin Vangiesen F (tough, strong, good court sense)
Jesse Wint G (Will be the stud of the team next year, great speed, great ball handler, good penatrater should be the starting point guard now!)
Tony Hernandez C (Smart, great passer can be an excellent scorer)
Hurons basketball team will have a collapse just like their football team did!
ReplyDeleteHurons basketball team has yet to collapse; Hurons football has never not collapsed.
ReplyDeleteAlso for the anonymous who said the 5 benchers; I agree with you totally. Zach Page lived in Swan Creek and played basketball with all the kids there for years and was always first pick; top scorer when he played. Justin Vangiesen and Jesse Wint both play in Huron Estates every day they can playing basketball. If you got Jesse on your team playing in there? You got a sure win. I also don't see why they don't start much and only see a few minutes of game time? Put those 5 in a pick off game against the main starters for Huron and you'll see the even match up. Just my two cents. =]
KC
Swan Creek? Huron Estates? Because you are a playground all american does not mean you will be a good HS basketball player! I have never scene much discipline on the asphalt- offensively or defensively.
ReplyDeleteHuron has had plenty of asphalt all americans through the years which amounted to what- maybe 5 .500 records in the last 30 yrs? Fortunately senior & JR has been able to mold this group into "basketball players".
The bench at huron is great. The reason they don't start more is because? The kids out there are 15-0 and went 22-2 last year you think. And that strong bench is why there so good.they can step in and keep things going.
ReplyDeletejust curious: how many players will Huron lose to graduation after this season?
ReplyDeleteUhm streetball is where talent comes into play. Not every little touch is called so the game isn't stopped every.... minute to give up the ball. Streetball is diciplined; just not every little touch is called. Slap going up? Its called. Double dribble? Its called. Traveling? Its called.. Don't know what kind of street ball you play but in both places? I'd say its pretty well diciplined. This group has always been "basketball players" since they were in the mini huron league from elementry school up until Junior high. Don't see how they get to high school and are suddenly considered "basketball players" when they've played most of their lifes.

So what about those Chiefs? I agree with anyone who says the are the best team in the league, because they are. To add to that I also think Jesse Wint is one of the top 3 players on the team, and should be starting. He handles the ball well and shows great team work. He knows when to pass the ball and not be a ball hog, for that he shows great ability to be a team player. Just what any wining team needs.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you on Jesse Wint. He is by far the best ball handler on the team and if he got the time on the court like Richardson or Stockart or even Tavtigian he would probably be dropping 15-20 a game.
ReplyDeleteI have watched these boys play pick up games at Willow Park and FR rec center the past couple years and the one who seems to impress the most is this Page kid.
It is surprising seeing him sitting on the bench every Huron game I have been to.
I hear he is a pretty good baseball player too. I'll have to go check out a couple Huron baseball games and see if rides the pines there too.
Good Luck Huron!! You have a tough team this season and it looks like the future is promising with your good JV team as well.
I think the main reason why Richardson shines so bright playing for Huron, (Not taking away the fact that he is a skilled player with a nice stroke and an extreme desire to win) Richardson has free reign on the court to do anything he wants. He is pretty much allowed to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court without any repercussion. (over 260 FG attemps) many of the other guys on the team shoot a 15-18 footer and they get berated for a couple minutes by the coach. and these are good shooters. What I'm trying to say is Richardson has no fear of missing a shot where as alot of the other boys do. Thats makes a huge difference in the mindset and confidence
ReplyDeleteof these other players. I see these guys pass up wide open shots and pass to a well guarded Richardson in fear of being taken out of the game if they miss, sometimes even on a made shot. Go watch a Huron game and tell me I'm wrong. I understand Richarson is the, "go to guy"
but it would be nice to see Huron spread the wealth a little more the other guys on the team have alot to offer as well.
RE: "Uhm streetball is where talent comes into play."
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT!
LOL...love the irony "just what any w[h]ining team needs".
ReplyDeleteto anon @ 9:11 PM. Huron is loosing their 2 top scorers however their shoes will be readily filled. They will have Wint, Corbiel, Brennan, both Vangiesen brothers,Clark and Fayer, and a slew of talented JV players moving up to Varsity. Huron will have a very good basketball team for at least a few more years.
ReplyDeletewhy'd you delete my comment the Huron kids need to know they are full of themselves and they are talking to eachother on here
ReplyDeleteHurons jv went 18-2 this season with good rebounders, a great shooter, and a solid point gaurd. They should help next years varsity team alot.
