Riverview beats CC by 2. Smcc was down 14 in the 4th in qrt and came back. They need to start playing a whole game and not just wait til the 4th. That's just my opinion. On a side note smcc jv team beat riverview by 4 in 4 OT. Pretty exciting game that was.
Parents who argue with scorekeeper after the game about how many points their kid scored make me sick..especially after your kids team wins the game...one of the problems with high school athletics.they shouldn't even keep individual score..just the score on the scoreboard..isn't that what matters most anyways?
I would think that SMCC is struggling with the coaching change. Let's be honest Lauwers is in the HALL of FAME!! You do not replace a guy like that. I would hope Windham is the guy for the long term. But he has a huge challenge in front of him. Don't they always say "don't be the guy who replaces the legend" replace the guy who replaced the legend.
Good luck to Windham.. Looks like he is going to need it.
GI is NOT utilizing their talent...they have team speed to burn yet don't run and don't press??? They don't have the talent or personnel to match up in a 1/2 court game with most HL team....Square peg in a round hole on the island!!!
20 point blowouts will continue to be the norm util they start playing the whole court and embrace transition instead of avoiding it....
JV beat Huron (thier first loss) and has a great record, one on the best in the HL...so the future looks good...as long as the JV coach stays with em'!! He runs a press and has the kids hungry for transition....HINT, HINT coach F.
As a SMCC parent the coaching has been fine Randy is trying to change the attitude of the program as far as aggressivness it doesn't happen overnight. We have been in every game with the exception of huron. So it has been I'm sure a trying time for hime knowing how competetive he is. Plus we haven't won a league or district in like ten years. So it isn't like we have been winning anything.
I think cc and windham will be alright. They were down 14 going to the 4th and only ended up losing by 2. They waited til the last qrt to play and you can't do that. You gotta play a full 32 minutes. If they did they probably could have won. But they didn't so they lost by 2. They go to flat rock on Friday.
I was at the GI/Huron game last night. GI has some players but they are small. Pressing wouldn't have mattered last night. Huron was biggger and better.
No word on where Kalbfleisch was. It didn't seem to matter though. He has his kids and staff all on the same page.
GI does not have great team speed. They are slower than every team that they have lost to in the league so far. Airport, Flat Rock, Milan, and Huron were all bigger, faster, and quicker. I honestly don't understand what game you are watching during the Varsity game. You need to open your eyes and see what is going on. As a GI supporter, I can see that they don't have a true point guard, no size, they aren't that fast, and they don't have a "feel" for the game. How many of these kids actually play basketball in there free time? My guess is one or two.
GI supporter....I'll give you no point guard, no size and maybe feel for the game, but aren't fast is WRONG!!
Teen, Nussbaum, Johnson, Adkins, Church, Cameron all can burn. White, Gaudette, Sassick, Berlinski can all move if they were expected too. Thats 10 of 12 that HAVE SPEED.
If I didn't know these kids and only watched GI play hoops, I'd agree that they don't LOOK FAST...why, becuase that's how they're coached.
Slow it down, set it up is the battle cry! They don't have a transition bone in their body. With what, the smallest team in the league expects to compete while playing a 1/2 court game??? And no pure point guard to boot!!...square peg in a round hole for GI varsity hoops.
A couple of posts on mlive said that Huron players were showing up to school late the day after games and that's maybe way their coach wasn't at the game because he got in trouble for it. I'm not really thinking much of it though. It's probably just some mumbo jumbo that someone started. But if it is true I don't think the coach should be getting in trouble unless he knew something about it. It should be the parents. Again I think it's just rumor though. They are posts 17066 and 17059
Typical GI parent hiding behind an anonymous screen name and taking shots at the coach. Obviously the "winds of change" havn't quite made it to the island yet.

ReplyDeletecc 53 riverview 55 Wetzel had 16 and Nick Wilson had 10 for cc.
ReplyDeleteGood for Milan... maybe they can get back to there winning days as they did under Coach Ron Dingman

ReplyDeleteMan SMCC is awful this year. Everytime I look at the scores I see that they lost.

Flat Rock was up 14 beginning of 4th... Airport had good comeback but to little to late

GI frosh are smoking hot too!!
Where was the Huron coach?

ReplyDeleteA couple of points.
ReplyDeleteBe patient SMCC. You have a good coach.

A coach no show? That cann't be good.
ReplyDeleteWindham is a great coach and solid person, he will get CC going int the right direction.
ReplyDeleteOn this Blog Richardson had 21
ReplyDeleteIn the paper Richardson had 21
On Maxpreps Richardson had 23
Does any one at Huron know how to keep stats and the book? Are they pading points now?
Also I seen that Billy Ames was moved up to Vars. is that permanent? Why move him up were he would only get a 4th of the playing time.
Per the Monroe Evening News the Huron Coach had Kidney Stones

Grading the teams at almost the halfway point.
ReplyDeleteHuron "A+" They are doing it all very well
Milan "A" New coach and a couple of transfer can work miracles
Riverview "B" Continue to be competitive every game.
Airport "B" solid guard play and solid coaching is a good combination.
Grosse Ile "C-" They could use more talent.
FlatRock "D" Need to improve on the defensive end.
Jefferson "D" Talent is lacking and the jury is out on the coaching.
SMCC "D-" Pre season League favorite. jury is out on the coaching here too.
Funny how you say Airport has solid guard play and coaching they have beat gi and jefferson lost to huron fr and cc. For 11:17 anonymous
ReplyDeleteI think you need another analogy to describe teams in the league other than “the jury is out”

ReplyDeleteWhen I graded teams it was based on preseason expectations and how they are currently performing.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the truth hurts about GI hoops... a so called shot at the coach must have hit between the eyes.
ReplyDeleteRUN Forrest, RUN!!
