you can tell when watching this game that baker was the best player on the floor, not to take anything away from wetzel. Yes this game came down to basically how the two of them played. Wetzel was the better player TONIGHT as Baker had an off night but as a former monroe country official and coach I can say that Airport will win the next game. In terms of defense, rebounding, scoring, floor smarts, and leadership Baker stoo out. He had an off night and didnt knock down the shots that he normally does but i see him leading his team to a W when they play at airport. James Fidler had a nice game for the Jets, and it was apparent that Airport severely missed starting guard Jeremy Pidgeon whos out with a fracturd finger. He'll be back next time these two teams meet and St Marys wont have the luxury of playing in there ow gym where it seems nearly impossible to win. Prediction for next game between these two rivals Airport 55 SMCC 52. Although again I can easily see Wetzel gettig his 20+ points
Are you kidding me? Wetzel was definitefly the better player, shooter, and rebounder. I'd say if Richardson does not win POY wetzel will get it. Baker will not even come close with wetzel Richardson or even scarton if flat Rock. That is poor analysis. I don't know if you were watching the same game I was.
Wow Wetzel can shoot the ball... I was at the Airport SMCC game and Wetzel was hitting them from everywhere i knew he could hit 3's but some of the ones he was hitting were 2 or 3 feet behind the arc... I underestimated this SMCC team if you play them on their court they are a very very tough team to stop... Jones and Baker both played alright but they could've played better... Pidgeon for Airport was severely missed as it seemed every open shot Airport got was a 3... Good win for SMCC i think it will be interesting when CC has to go to Airport though...
If Scarton scores 25 and you still lose by 5 you know you are playing a pretty good team... Huron is the real deal and if you wanna beat them then you had better bring your A game cuz nothing else will work... Richardson 31 Points!!!!
and poster at 11:09 p.m. if you think Baker will not even come close to player of the year your wrong... your one of those kids that just looks at points... go to the bottom and look at the max preps... Baker leads his team in assists rebounds and steals... and scores 10 a game... there is a reason that Chris put that maxpreps thing at the bottom... and my pick would still be Scarton
Richardson can apparently take over a game when it comes down to the wire as he did in last nights game. Pretty sure he scored 31 in the game with the majority of his points coming in the second half. If he wants to score he will score either from outside or by driving to the basket. I just wish he would follow his shot more. He tends to fall away on his jumper, he prob. could have had more scoring chances from getting his own rebound off of missed shots. He is an outstanding rebounder.
Well not many real surprises about last nights action. The biggest surprise comes with Milan beating Riverview. Looks like everyone outside of Jefferson could have a say in who wins the league. The Bears on the other hand are in serious trouble.
Is Huron deep or what? When they subsitute they pretty much get talent for talent with the exception of Richardson and Stockert no other players on the bench match their talent.
What happen to the View? People was picking them in the top 3 of the league and lose to Milan. WAY WAY OVERRATED!!!!! Botom half of the league at best.
Well you also got to look at the impact of what he has for his team aka the record. I think that Wetzel played absolutely solid considering he had 25 points 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Thats a very good game. That game last night put Keenan pretty high up there. Ya'll are just haters.
If Huron is so deep? - Why is Richardson scoring half of your points every game? All Huron is, is Richardson and a lot of role players thats the reason that they are winning.
Milan betaing Riverview didn't suprise me. The Big Red are playing together with their size and young talent. Milan did not play man-to-man defense at all that I can remeber. They stayed in a 1-2-2 zone and Riverview's guards looked like they have never saw a zone before. Also Brad Stewert had an off game, and no one picked up his slack, he cant do it all. Milan will win some games in the league this year, Riverview on the other hand is all ???????????? 0-3 at home? 2-0 on the road?
While I'm a GI parent and fan, I agree the GI / Jefferson game was chippy and poorly refereed. I do think that Jefferson had some bad calls on them, but it wasn't a total one way street as indicated above. Remember, good teams overcome and outplay sixth man officials (assuming that true).
The real issue is the Extremely POOR sportmanship displayed by Jefferson. You can flame me if you want...but open displays of questioning refs, slamming doors, wicked elbows (refs see that stuff Jefferson!) and parent out-bursts was embarrasing for Jefferson and the HL!!
The final nail was after the game when a Jefferson parent openly railed the coach (it was a gross display), players f-bombing the action, etc, etc.
Jeffersons coach and staff had better nip this behavior now or it will be a VERY LONG season for them, and not just wins/losses.
GI had better start running more and use the whole court (press coach F, PRESS) or they will likely get embarrased by the leagues best thinking they can play half court with the elite. GI can RUN and better start!!
Jefferson basketball parents are some of the worse in the league. If they openly question every single call, they most likely go home and tell their sons they got hosed by the ref's after each game. Sooner or later the kids start to act like the parents (on the court)especially when the season starts to get away from them.
What was so poor about the refereeing in the GI game? What bad calls were made on Jefferson? I watched the game and MJ was more physical, played from behind, and were mad that they were getting beat so bad. Consquently, more fouls were called against them for their chippy play.
On the other hand, GI was ahead by a lot and laid back on D while MJ shot jumpers. Consequently, they were whistled for less fouls.
The refereeing was fine - the behavior of MJ players was bad and (you are right) the parents of MJ need to be better role models.
It's a pet peeve of mine when blame is placed on the refs - especially in a 20 point blowout. They couldn't have affected the game that much.
At the end of the game, Jefferson showed poor sportsmanship...Agreed...The Refs lost control of the game well before that. When one player is literally punched and another is hooked to the floor...you make the call. If your going to call it...call it both ways. Jefferson should have adapted to the refs style early. Don't single out player numbers, they know who they are. Single out the parents if thats your issue.
Parent here....I think both sides had plenty of opportunity to complain about calls, or in this case, no calls.
My basis for questioning officials was how the chippy play was handled. It went on for too long, which allowed for calls to be interpreted as questionable because they were "no calls" previously.
I will say that any talk about PRO GI REFS from this game is ridiculous!! Jefferson completely lost their composure...Players and Parents.
The Coach (with support of the parents) has the job to address that with the players... Who's going to address the parents?? (Answer, They have to fix that themselves)
GI did outplay and outman Jefferson too...lets not lose sight of that, it was GI's first varsity win this year and they earned it.
Still don't see how the refs let the game get out of hand. It was completely in control up to when the Jefferson player went ballistic over an incident that no one saw (at least the people who sat around me). After that, only one additional incident occurred again with the Jefferson player falling on/pushing a GI reserve. The refs called that a foul too.
Again, just a pet peeve when people blame the refs. Seriously, the fact is that Jefferson plays a physical style - eventually that creates plays during a game that sometimes get out of hand (especially when the players have a chip on their shoulder). But the key is it was certain PLAYS not the entire game.
SMCC won 57-52. Wetzel high scorer for CC and I'd say Baker was for Airport.
ReplyDeleteSMCC 57
ReplyDeleteAirport 52
Keenan Wetzel another BIG game
gi blewout jefferson...number #24 from grosse ile punched mike oley and oley was ejected!!!! jefferson got terrible calls from the pro grosse ile refs

Richardson is a outstanding rebounder at 3 rebounds a game being 6'5?
ReplyDelete3 a game is outstanding for the amount of time he plays?
