If there were any thoughts that the game between Flat Rock and Huron would be anything but close those were erased as the Rams jumped out on the Chiefs to start the game 11-4.
Flat Rock led by seven at halftime 35-28. Andrew Scarton, Joe Conner, Robbie Kobylasz and Adam Schoen played flawless basketball in the half while Flat Rock's smallest player Dan Chickeral held Huron's Zac Richardson in check.
In the 2nd half Huron showed why they are the defending champs and league favorites as they erased the seven point halftime deficit behind the perimeter shooting of Richardson and inside play of Dave Stockert.
The game was close throughout the 2nd half as Scarton and Richardson battled to see who the favorite is for player of the year honors. Flat Rock was nearly flawless from the line during the game while Huron struggled a bit from the line. In the end Richardson's shooting and Huron's defense was to much for the Rams.
Richardson led Huron with 31 points while Scarton scored 24 and Schoen 16 for Flat Rock.
it's Rob Kobylasz, not Robbie lol, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI attened the Huron/Flat Rock game, and let me tell you, Flat Rock showed something they havent shown all year, they played great, and Huron showed why they are the favorites storming back form a big 1st half deficit.
ReplyDeleteBut i think Flat Rock really made a statement with this game, they showed that they should be getting some more credit in this league, i see them finishing 2nd or 1st depending on how the next Huron games goes. Flat Rock outplaed the "Mighty Chiefs" the whole night untill the last 2 minutes, and i give Huron all the credit in the world to have such a clutch game, but the refs down on FR's side let some no calls go that, in my opinion, should really have been called, if Flat Rock has Conner and Chickeral on the floor in the last 2 minutes, behind the play of their two captains (Scarton/Kobylasz) i think flat rock could have pulled that one off.
It will always be Robbie Kobylasz or I can just say Mike's little brother.:)
ReplyDeleteHuron was sloppy from the beginning. Flatrock seems to only play 5 guys. They're on the floor so much that they ended up in foul trouble. Flatrocks free throw shooting was spot on and kept them in the game. In the end Huron had too many weapons. Their defense is good, they have a legitimate shooter and a post game when they want to.
ReplyDeleteTEAM=Mighty Chiefs
ReplyDeleteBest player in the Huron league?
ReplyDeleteAndrew Scarton by a mile
If you watched that game he totally controlled that game with his superior skills. His ball handling and basketball I.Q. was twice the amount than any other player on the court. He is the only player in the league that can control a game all by himself. Richardson is a good scorer and he made his 3’s in the 2nd half to lead his team to a win. But if you look apples to apples – Huron has twice the team of Flat Rock. They were actually lucky to escape with a win last night. If Scarton had the size of Richardson or Wetzel he would dropping 50 a game easy. For those who say that Scarton does not play defense you are totally wrong, if motivated he can and will guard any guard in the league. He has the speed and athleticism stay in front of anybody.
"If motivated he can and will guard any guard in the league" Then obviously he has never really been motivated.
ReplyDeleteWho did Scarton guard last night? He held his man to 3 and some free throws I believe
ReplyDeleteMost underated player in the league???
ReplyDeleteYour wrong Scarteon can handle the ball good yes. But he looks like he's setting up to take the last shot before the half on every shot.Huron plays fast break BB just because scarton sits at the top of the key waiting to deside when to take his shot.Listen scarton can handle the ball and he can shoot three's when he's on.Richardson can do all that and alot more.
ReplyDeletePLus Richardson makes his team better beacuse he finds the open guy. Scarton is sitting up at the top of the key thinking about how he can get his shot.

Richardson is better in 8 out of 10 and the two that he's not are all most a tie.So scarton shoots threes and he's a point gaurd so he passes the ball.Like i said RICHARDSON does everything MVP.
The college scouts were in attendance tuesday night to watch Andrew Scarton, not Zack Richardson..Richardson mine was well tie his left hand behind his back, because he can't/doesn't use it..he's a great player on the best team in the Huron League, no doubt, but Scarton possess more talent, and capability to play at the next level...do this for me..put richardson on FR's team, and Scarton on Huron's team..in that scenario last night Huron would have won by 30..
ReplyDeleteI don't really see there being a difference is Scarton was on Huron andd Richardson was on FR. The score would've been roughly the same. Scarton is good but Richardson is better. Richardson also has a great team to back him up. Not his fault. If Scartons team played harder and wanted it more they could do good; but fact of the matter is Huron wants these wins more then anything and to come out from behind like they did in the second half is the reason why their the defending league champs; they play hard, figure out their mistakes, fix them, and go play a good game. Put Scarton on Huron's team all you want; Richardson isn't the only one doing it for Huron; its called his TEAM.
ReplyDeleteThe Talent and capability to play at the next level?? You are joking right. What is Scarton 5'8" maybe 5'9". Look at the stats above your post they speak volumes. He can't hold a candle to Richardson.
ReplyDeleteBoth Scarton and Richardson are excellent high school players for their league.
ReplyDeleteThey are two completely different players. One is a PG the other a SG. One is very skilled the other a great scorer. One is 5'8" the other is 6'3". One is basically one sport specialist the other a standout at three sports.
I think both may play in college depending on their aspirations. Look for Scarton to play DIII or NAIA. His height may hold him back. Look for Richardson to play both scoccer and basketball at the DIII or NAIA level. His height may help him.
The funny thing about this whole argument is that while these two are great Huron League players I don't believe either is good as a Ted Tackett (Riverview) or Jason Saville (FR). Neither of those guys played a lick of college ball.
Anyway, it's interesting to see the different takes on each player. I will add one point to the argument. Scarton is 3-7 in his career against Huron. Richardson is 5-2 in his career.
The scouts may have been there to see scarton .But after the game the scouts where out in the hall talking to Richardson.Im sorry there are to many things scarton can't do.He's way to short he does not play def.he can't drive to the net in less it's wide open. But hay he can dribble good don't no how far that will take him.
ReplyDeleteI believe Richardson is an overall better player than Scarton. He scored 31 points while Scarton only scored 24. Maybe if scarton had a better team behind him then he would be a better player. But richardson's team is legit. the rams rely only on scarton and obviously that doesnt get the job done. huron doesnt only have to rely on richardson and can still beat every team.
ReplyDelete-M.E. & G.K.
Richardson Vs. Scarton
ReplyDeleteThe true test of some ones basketball ability is how they do against top level competition. I watched Huron vs. Inkster last year. Inkster is a very solid basketball team with size, speed, and athleticism. Richardson could not even bring the ball up the court without getting it stolen. Inkster total embarrassed Richardson and Huron. I was sitting with the Inkster fans and they asked me there record. I said 22-1. They started laughing and they said “They (Huron) were the worse teams they played this year.” Huron was down by 30 at half time. Richardson could not handle Inkster size and speed, he looked lost!
Scarton on the other hand goes too some of the top level Basketball camps during the summer. There are the top level players in the State at those camps. Scarton can hold this own at these camps and plays very well vs. the top level competition.
If you do not believe me that Scarton is not one of the best players in the State. Go to the Free Press, look under Mick McCabe's top 100 boys basketball players in the state. You will find Andrew Scarton there and no Richardson.
CASE CLOSED
Scarton to small to play in college wrong again!
ReplyDeleteArthur Hill's Maurice Jones has signed to play at Southern California and stands just 5-feet-6
If you watched the Inkster/Huron game last year you would have noticed that Huron's best player on the floor that night was Richardson. He was forced to move to the point because nobody else could handle the pressure. He also had 12 of Huron's 22 points in the 1st half. Also, give credit to Inkster's Durand Shepherd who made a nice coaching move by putting Inkster's best defender on Richardson after halftime. Your really reaching on this one.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Huron was only down 31-22 at halftime not 30. The score was actually 25-22 before Inkster when on a 6-0 run to end the half.
Next, if Huron was the worse team Inkster played last year what did that make Flat Rock who lost three times to the Chiefs?
I don't think that anyone is arguing that Scarton isn't a good player. Just remember most of those camps Scarton attends are camps anyone can attend if they pay the money.
Mick McCabe is not the be all end all when it comes to the top 100 players in the state. He simply gives his opinion.
Last, you didn't just compare Scarton to Maurice Jones did you? I hope not!
Witness you seem to have all the answers. So I will ask you a question. What level ball will Scarton play in college? Play being the key word.
Wetzel is better than Richardson
ReplyDeleteI hope Richardson is ready for Friday
Okay Wetzel is a better shooter than anyone in the league by a longshot... but he is not the best player... there are so many people that are so much more all around then him... Richardson Scarton both can do it all ... they can handle, score , pass, rebound , assist you name it...
ReplyDeleteI think that pure shooters in Huron League are Wetzel and Jones but that does not make them best players... Jones isnt even best on his team and Richardson and Scarton are both in my mind better all around players
WHAT DO YOU THINK???
WHAT DO YOU THINK CHRIS???
@ The Witness, Scarton won't even PLAY in D3. He flat out don't have the size or strength.
ReplyDeleteNo one has talked about the gains made from last season to this season. Scarton is the same player he was last year while Richardson is at the very least 25% better than he was was last year.
I know SMCC dosent have there sats on max prepes but wetzel is averaging 21 6 rebounds and 4 assists..thats pretty complete
ReplyDeletePersonal I do not think that either Richardson or Scarton will play in college – maybe DIII. They are both solid high school players. But that was not my point, my point was that I think Scarton is the better high school player and he is the raining and defending league MVP. This blog has been pro Huron and pro Richardson I was just making a point about Scarton. Richardson is a good player and should come in second for the league MVP.
ReplyDeletePeople stop saying that he does not have the size and strength. He is 5’8-5’9 and can dunk just as easy as Richardson at 6’5 and I bet he can lift more than Richardson too.
Second, about the gains from last year (7:45) you are so wrong about that. The difference from last year is because of the STYLE OF PLAY. Last year Huron dumped the ball into the post the whole game so Richardson did not get the shots. This year Huron plays an up-tempo speed game where the guards do the scoring. Richardson is not that much better than last year – the style of play is the reason for the big jump in numbers.
If you took Richardson off Huron and put Scarton on Huron there is no doubt that Huron would be better! What is Huron’s weakness? – Point guard! All the Huron people say how deep Huron is. Richardson would be replaced easier than Scarton off Flat Rock. Point guard is the most important person on a basketball team. Flat Rock would be in last place if it was not for Scarton.
During football season I was accused of being pro SMCC. Did I cover SMCC more than anyone? Yes, I think that was probably because they were the best team in the league.
ReplyDeleteRight now is the blog pro Huron? Probably but they are 6-0 and Richardson is leading the league in scoring.
I gurantee I would be accused of being pro FR if they were 5-1 instead of 1-5.
Not you Chris, most the posters are pro huron
ReplyDeleteI agree with the witness! He knows of what he is talking about.
ReplyDeleteAs a former coach in the league who has prepared for both Scarton and Richardson. I would say they both have there strong points. Scarton sees the floor very well. Controls the game with his leadership and makes everyone around him better. I voted for him as player of the year last year. Richardson is long and athletic, shoots the ball very well and plays very good defense. I would say they both can play in college at the D 3 level or NAIA. The both are very solid Huron League players. Hard to compare who is better as they play different positions. It was always my opinion that the point guard is the most valuable position on the floor. He is the extension of the coach. They are both fine players and any team in the league would love to have them. In my opinion If we had a draft for the players in the league and I drafted first I would take Scarton just because he is a point guard. Richardson and Wetzel are very close though...
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion..
P.S Chris you do a great job with this blog.
An Ex Huron League Coach
very good points chris. i think you do a wonderful job with this blog. continue to give your input it makes the blog interesting
ReplyDeletesounds like witness is pro flat rock. u give no credit to Richardson. hes a much better player from last year. he couldn't dunk last year now he throws down, you just haven't seen it yet. and I'm pretty sure Ive never seen scar10 dunk. please get on Richardson level :)wait...u can't
ReplyDeleteLast year is in the past; this is the present. Let's stay in it. Huron's doing a great job at 7-0 now.... Let's not be sore about it and be all anti-huron. Like many of us have said; its not all about Richardson, its a TEAM SPORT! You guys seem to forget that alot.....
