There could be any numerous headlines after the Chiefs thrashed SMCC 62-37 in New Boston on Friday night. Huron was firing on all cylinders from early on in the 2nd quarter.
The Chiefs led 13-12 after one quarter and it looked like it was going to be a close ball game.
Huron opened it up in the 2nd quarter as the Chiefs hit five 3 pointers. Zac Richardson connected on one while Chiefs guards Caleb Tavtigian and Nick Corbiel each nailed two. Huron led 29 -21 at the break.
The 3rd quarter started the same way as the 2nd as the Chiefs outscored the Falcons 18-4. Dave Stockert had a monster quarter for the Chiefs. Early on in the quarter Stockert blocked a Falcon shot then raced down the court for a layup on a pass from Tyler Weclowski.
The 4th quarter was basically mop up time for the reserves as the Chiefs improved their record to 2-0 in the league and 7-0 overall.
In the much anticipated individual match up between SMCC's Keenan Wetzel and Huron's Richardson, it was really no contest. Richardson led the Chiefs with 22 points on a myriad of shots which included 3 three pointers. Wetzel finished the night with no field goals and one freethrow.
Edmond Shinavare led the Falcons with 11 points. SMCC drops to 1-1 in the league and 3-4 overall.
Huron dominated thats for sure. Can SMCC beat Huron? I don't know. It doesn't look like they can, but I really think they could have made it a closer game. Wetzel started the 3rd qrt and was taken out pretty early and didn't play the rest of the night. Do I think if he had played the game would have been different?? No, I don't. I think Huron would have won anyway, but I think Wetzel would have scored more. Anyway, impressive game from the cheifs.
ReplyDeleteReserves in the 4th qrt?? SMCC basically played its subs since early in the 3rd and Huron still had its starters on the floor in the 4th qrt. They didnt take Richardson out until with like 1:40 left in the game if I remember right. The other ones came out with like 3 minutes or so. But they had starters on the floor in the 4th qrt. This was a very nice win for Huron! They showed why they are looking to be back-to-back champs!
ReplyDeleteWetzel basically didn't play in the 2nd half. I think he was in a little bit in the 3rd quarter at the beginning, but then that was it.
ReplyDeleteI want to commend the coach from SMCC, his best player had an attitude at the start of the second half, and was direspectful to his coach. The Coach did the right thing buy sitting him!
ReplyDeleteMighty chiefs
ReplyDeleteWetzel didnt play because weclowski shut him down ALL night! Then wetzel got in a fight with his coach and the coach didnt put him back in the game. Weclowski is the best defender in the league. Weclowski was on him like glue, only alowwing him to have 1 point. What a statement win for huron.
ReplyDeleteGood win, give stockert the ball more! Nice game zack
ReplyDeleteHuron you think that you are good, go play your neighbors in Romulus
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any team in the Huron league that can stop Huron!
ReplyDeleteI think even the Chiefs know that wouldn't be much of a game. Interesting question. Would Richardson start at Romulus? Would anyone other than Stockert make the team?
ReplyDeleteHuron has to come into Airport on Tuesday and if they win that one then i dont think they will lose a game in the Huron League im interested to see Airport match up with Huron because both these teams speed throughout the roster is amazing... thats why these teams are good they play hard and have speed
ReplyDeleteDont talk about stuff you dont know. Wetzel did not get in any form of argument with the coach he didnt play bec they were getting killed..none of the starters played much the 2nd half
ReplyDeleteTo the poster to which said play our neighbors, Romulus? Uhm whats Romulus got to offer? Enlighten us please? Huron is basically un-touchable on the court. Tavtigan, Richardson, Corbiel, Wint, Liperato, Weclowski, and some i know im missing are the best around; and practice ALL THE TIME [see some of them in Huron Estates playing the court all the time] whats Romulus got?
ReplyDeleteThe Romulus post makes no sense. Why would Huron need to even think about Romulus? Romulus is basically a basketball factory that is ranked high in Class A.
ReplyDeleteHuron is a small town school where everyone basically plays three sports.
Why all the hating on Huron? They've earned the accolades. Let them get a little cradit for a change.
I know guys give it to Huron, there actually good at something for once.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to give Huron credit because of 40+ years being at the bottom of the league. But they are starting to earning some over these two years.
ReplyDeletewhy would it be hard to give huron credit? after so much losing for 40+ years they should be getting tons of credit!
