SMCC loses to Milan by 5 or 7 I don't remember. Bad 4th qrt for the falcons! Milan is very quick and fast on defense.
ReplyDeleteCC loses 55-49. Didn't play to well in the 4th qrt. Milan has a decent team and seem to be playing with confidence right now. They are very, very quick. Wetzel was CC's high scorer with 18. Luvene and Elijah Lewis had 12 a piece for Milan.

ReplyDeleteWord has it that Riverview spread the floor and looked for penetration.
ReplyDeleteStewart hit two freethrows with 10 sec. left to give Riverview the lead. Richardson hit a 5 footer with 3.1 sec left and was fouled. He hit the freethrow to seal the one point win.
the refs where very pro huron but riverview will beat huron at home the first 6 possessions of the game for riverview threw the ball right away not 1 shot in 6 possessions

I went to the Huron/Riverview game and saw a GREAT contest. Great hustle, intensity, sportsmanship, coaching, and officiating. Riverview should have won the game as they really were amped up and JJ was using his whole bench to a definitive advantage. Huron came out flat and proceeded to commit a ton of fouls caused by a combination of lazyness and Riverview's effort. Richardson was noticably "absent" for most of the game until the last quarter when he pretty much single-handedly carried the Chiefs to the victory.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I see that an anonymous person claimed the refs were "very pro-Huron" - that couldn't be further from the truth. Huron had foul trouble and #4 fouled out without impacting the game much. The officiating was high quality and, as stated before, the game was one of the best I've seen at the high school level especially taking into account all the things I mentioned above. Great job JJ and Kabby, way to show up Riverview, and way to finish like champions Huron! Hope to see some more games like this in the Huron league this year!

ReplyDeleteHow were they pro Huron? Zac Richardson was dribbling the ball up the sideline late in the game and the ref called him out. He was easily a foot from being out of bounds. Almost lost Huron the game. Poor officiating if you ask me
ReplyDeleteWOW! To Anonymous on the 23rd @ 12:26. You sure you were at the same game as me. The refs were not pro Huron at all. The Huron guys were getting hacked hard whenever they tried to go to the rim with the majority of the time there being a no call. Stewart would drive in throw up wild shots that were hardly close and get a whistle almost on every play.
ReplyDeleteAll in all Huron had prob. twice as many fouls as Riverview. How can you say the refs were pro Huron? BTW player of the week shoulda went to Richardson not Stewart.
Just asking....but how did you know that he didn't dribble it out of bounds? Based on where the play occurred, the only one's who could see it was the referee and the riverview team (and maybe the huron coaches). I was sitting a few rows behind huron's bench and couldn't tell, anyone above me on the same side of the court wouldn't be able to tell, and certainly no one on the other side of the court could.

About the officials:

One leader's (cough cough) CLASSLESS response
"We didn’t play well at all,” Kalbfleisch said. “(It didn’t help that) the officiating was ridiculous.”
One coach took the approach to make his kids accountable, the other taught them that making excuses was acceptable.
Through all this, I hope people remember that high school sports is about buildng character. Trust me, your employer won't ask you if you finished 22-0 or not your senior season of high school basketball. But they will ask you if you take responsibility for your work product even when circumstances you can't control affect what you are doing.
Think about that...
That is typical Huron people make excuses of why they did not play very well. Do not blame the refs for your performance. You were out played by Riverview. It was not the refs fault that Huron played bad. A good team adjusts to the refs. Huron people should be happy with the win. Stop being babies and whining all the time!
ReplyDeleteOkay I'll agree with the typical Huron people because I know it all too well, but the people on this message board are only responding to a non-huron, probably Riverview, fan who said that the refs were "very pro huron." And if Riverview outplayed Huron and they played so "bad" then why did the scoreboard read 44-43. Great game for both teams, Huron for the win and Riverview for the dreaded "moral victory" that they may use to propel them to a win at home. Was that babie-like enough of a comment?
