Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Does anybody play defense anymore?

Huron looks like they are for real.

It looks like Jefferson is improving.

Look for SMCC to really progress as the season rolls along.

Things aren't looking particularly good on the island.

Airport seems to be playing with confidence.

Milan looks to be a year or so away.

Riverview will still play and compete with anybody.

Did Flat Rock have any assist against Woodhaven?

Does the league miss Lauwers, Tarrant, Hawley, Ridzik and Mangin?

Those coaches all had one thing in common, any ideas?

  1. At Huron if you don't play DEF. 1st you don't play. And thats why Huron won the league last year and will win it this year.To many kids doing what daddy wants and not what the coach wants. And daddy wants little johnny to shoot the ball.

  2. haha I know what you're getting at chris, and what they all had in common..they all preached DEFENSE AND REBOUNDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From what I see that is not important anymore..I've watched Airport, Flat Rock, GI, and Milan, and NONE of them play Defense or Check off!

  3. Bingo! Defense wins! Those coaches never gave up more than 50 points a game in a season. Many times they were at or near the 40 points per game mark.

Hawley's teams were so hard to score on. Every possession was a battle. They challenged every pass and shot then they didn't give you a 2nd chance. They made sure they rebounded.

  6. Wrong! Tarrant, Lauwers and Hawley won league titles. Plus I said, "defense wins" I didn't say it won league championships. I think their records are pretty darn good acrossed the board.

As for Mangin's last season, you may be right. I would say look at his body of work. Flat Rock didn't give up many points during his tenure.

  7. Huron it is easy for you to hold a team to 29 point when they are worse then most JV teams

  8. Do not sign SMCC fan under the pretense that you are from SMCC. As a SMCC parent we have nothing but respect for all Huron league teams and until someone beats them Huron are the defending champs.

  9. SMCC fan here. I have a question to anyone from Huron or anyone who can answer, what is Zac Richardson's best sport? Soccer or basketball? And what do you think he will play in college?

  12. A couple of thoughts on Richardson. I would say he is pretty darn good at both sports.

In soccer he was able to dominate games with his size and athleticism. In basketball he has brought his game to another level.

I see him probably playing both sports in college, much like Voelz from Riverview who is playing both sports at Adrian College.

I could definetley see him at a Division III school where he would be an outstanding goalie and an excellent two guard.

  14. Huron definitely misses those coaches. Why? Fundamentals! While the Huron reps small town schools and doesn't have an overload of talent, the basketball's been pretty darn good to watch, and this is because the teams had good coaching.

  15. I still think there is good coaching in the league. I just really admired the job those five guys did.
