  1. What now? Where are the Milan haters at? 5-0 in the league with two left before the turn...oh yeah talk about the recruiting even though every one else knows we didnt...Defense has won games for us as we have yet to go off offensivley and if you watched us last year (the same kids) its coaching! Go Big Reds!!!

  4. Don't go there. I tried to tell people on this blog that coaching is huge in HS sports and got my you know what handed to me.

  5. Jefferson hit a 3 with 10 sec. left - up by 1 and couldn't seal the deal. Airport played very well til coach starts thinking too much. Players pulled it out for him. Defense fell apart in the 4th. Refs were typical Huron League caliber crap.

  7. Seriously, who is this guy posting at 4:30?????? Airport played well until coach starts thinking too much???? It sounds to me as though it was a game between 2 horrible teams that can't put the ball in the hole. 40-39, I'd rather watch paint dry!!!! Is it me, or does it seem as though nobody seems to be able to put the ball in the basket, or it may be the fact that the Huron league defenses are just sooooo dominating!!!!!!! Whoever this poster is, needs to just be happy the Jets pull out a win every now and again. Overall, league is very down!!!!

  9. The league isn't down. People say that every year. I think it's teams and coaches know everybodys strong points and most teams won't change or adjust. There are several great players in the huron league, along with outstanding coaches. Milan is very solid along with Riverview and SMCC. Airport is improving and so is Huron. Flat Rock will struggle without two starter for the next couple weeks. I say it's still open the winner of Riverview and SMCC will get Milan and home next time they play and will beat them.

    Milan 13-2
    SMCC 11-3
    Riverview 10-4

    Top 10 Players

    Andre Duffin Milan
    Edmond Shinevarre SMCC
    Tim Cottingim Flat Rock
    Brad Stewart Riverview
    Mike Kowalski Riverview
    CJ Turnage Milan
    Torin Wetzel SMCC
    Nick Corbeil Huron
    Tim Sassack Grosse Ile
    Rashard Wade Flat Rock

  11. Hey 7:44 - wasn't at the game were you? I agree the league is down and Airport is very young. Just come to a game and you'll see.

  12. The league, I am sorry to say my friend is down this year. I know that it is very difficult to look at past teams and compare them to the ones that are currently playing, but there is no doubt a lack of pure basketball talent in the league. It has been this way for awhile now. Let's examine some of the current top teams and compare them to themselves a few years back:
Riverview: the Tackett, Strok, and Voelz teams would absolutely destroy this team.
SMCC: pretty consistent throughout the last decade, nothing too special, but nothing bad at all. The 22-1 team would pound them that's for sure, but they pounded everyone that year.
Milan: Only team here that is better now. New coach does some nice things, and new kids are athletic. No Aaron White's though.
Huron: Kalbfleisch is outstanding. Huron was always a doormat, but now they put up a good fight night in and night out. The last 2 teams however would destroy this current team as well. Quick question for anyone? When was the last time the Huron League had a D1 hoops player????????
Better yet, a contibuting college player at any level. I do not accept the Liedel brothers from CC at Our Lady of Mercy in Ohio either!!!!!!
    I'm out!!!!!

  13. Exactly. 65-62. Had Blosser or someone hit a 3+ Milan would have a nice loss to a team no one expects to win. If they only won by 3? Then that goes to show they are not as good as they think ;)

  14. Like alot of you I have played and watched hoops in Monroe County for many years. When you attend a game its always immediately obvious where basketball falls in the AD's priority list of sports. Some have well qualified coaches with helpful and cheerful parents working concessions. Other schools are the opposite. Coaching is crutial. A good leader on the court can work thru the dirty floors and unkept locker rooms. A student athelete needs to have not only his body but his head in the game. Many basketball coaches fail at this. A coaches job is to talk to and convince thes kids of their abilities and put all the other distractions aside. I do not see this happening like I did 20-30 years ago. If your going to take the job - then do it right and don't fall short on your obligation to the kids and the school you represent. AD's need to monitor their coaching hires closer and make corrective actions. The parents and kids work too hard to have their time wasted in a failing program.

  15. DI players lately have been Everingham from GI who played and contributed at Detroit Mercy and Aaron White at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Prior to that was Jason Klein over at GI who played at Michigan State.

  16. Hey Chris, That is exactly what I am talking about. Not since Everingham has there been any D1 talent. Strok from Riverview was a good athlete, but not a D1 player. Monroe county in general has been absolutely absurd in producing basketball talent. I just don't think that there are enough kids playing hoops anymore and that want to all the time. There is a lot of other things they want to do that don't require them to put in the hard work that it takes to play the game. Don't get me wrong, there are a few kids around here that are fun to watch, just not as much talent overall in the league and county. Remember when the Huron league was loaded back in the mid 90's!!!! GI with Klein, Frysinger, Friel, and Swick!!!! CC with Thom, Bellino, and company. Airport with Cy Baker, Baas, and company. Those were excellent teams that played great games and had college talent. Not so much anymore. The gyms used to be packed and now, one side of the gym is empty. I miss those games!!!!

  17. jason klien was real good

  18. Ted Tackett was a good talent, 1,000 point scorer as well as a 1,000 yard rushing veer quarterback, B-E-A-S-T. And yes Jason Klein was very very good. I heard klein vs battier was quite a showdown back in the day.
