Huron will not be #1. There's just no way with the lack of height. What other talent does Riverview have besides Stewart and Kowalski?
August 6, 2010 11:58 AM
Riverview also has Junior G/F Corey Turner who can hit the 3 and drive to the basket and plays solid D. There is also Senior G Todd Fasca who can shoot and distributes the ball very well. They also have another big man who was brought up last year as a sophmore, 6'5" Junior Zach Haube who will block a lot of shots and is a very, very good defender and a solid rebounder. Teams will have to pick who they want to double up on Kowalski or Haube. Either way one or the other is gonna score 12+ a night on teams. It may be Kowalski one night and Haube the next. Junior G Matt Gibbons can shoot well from the outside. Riverview also has some kids moving up from the JV team that will contribute as well. Junior Chris Kratch is a tall, 6'3" Guard and can give smaller defenders fits with his outside shot and he can also drive to the basket effectively. There bench is very solid as well with Senior F Nick Beamish, Junior F Luke Tobler, and Junior G Will Boreo.
Chris Krach will be the best coming up from the JV team. He provides speed and is very aggressive. With his height it will be easy for him to drive the lane effectively. His ball handeling will come with time.
The bad thing about smcc is that year after year they showcase favorites and don't attempt to develop players at all. I've been watching them for many years and it hasn't changed. They are never going to do really well until they actually coach to bring out the best in all of their players not just some. It' really pretty sad.
Didn't realize Smcc had all the best basketball players over the years if you have actually watch smcc teams over the years coach lawers won with less talent if you are such an expert when was the last 20 pt scorer they had. they have always that is some of the problem with this blog everyting is negative except what Chris writes. Someone says wetzel is 6'6 next thing there are 30 posts saying he is not and and is terrible same thing with Shinavarre against Huron Zac was 0 for 19 in the regional but he was a very good player just had a bad game at a bad time. All of a sudden it was ed fault they lost or the coaches for playing him the whole game. Lifeis too short to be so negative. And yes almost all of the posters are kids but try and be positve.
It's my observation, dude. The heading is open forum, and I wrote what I see. It's conversation. If it was that bad, Chris wouldn't have printed it. I don't even know what you're talking about, with your rambling about smcc not having the best basketball players and on and on. All I am saying is that there are more than one or two players a year that are any good, the powers that be have their eye on one or two "names" and that's who they put all their money on, so to speak.
Agreed with August 9th, 2010 8:08pm Chris if you feel that way you shouldn't of made this thing. Everyone loves basketball drama so they come here for that reason! If you simply don't like it, don't read it. As the person above said, "OPEN FORUM". Nobody was even saying anything negative about anyone from SMCC.
It wasn't just that comment but yes it is an open forum but have some basis behind it just to blurt out something is not conversation give some examples. Then there can be some conversation. Let's hear some names that were showcased with no talent dude (nice word) how old are you?lol
Yah, like I'm going to start naming names? That's looking for trouble and I'm not. I'm saying that every year there are a one or two stand outs they put their money on and other players don't get developed as much. I didn't say the showcased players aren't talented, you said that. And I didn't blurt, I wrote just like you did. Sorry I surprised you so much. You sound like you're pretty defensive, one of the chosens maybe?
Whoever said Todd Fasca will lead the league in assits is way off. Its no knock on him, he is a very good player, but Riverview runs a dribble drive offense. Ed Shinavarre, Nick Corbeil, and CJ Turnage would be the most likely to lead the league in assists, in my opinion.
Hey (August 12, 2010 2:42 PM) .. how about we not bash on players.
We'll see whose better 'when the season starts up', and who has the Huron League Title at the end of the season. Then you can talk it all up.
Assists Per Game Todd Fasca 2.3 (not to mention Todd didn't get as much time as the other guards) Assists Per Game Nick Corbiel 1.7 we'll see when the season comes.
corbiel will probably lead in assist i agree with the aug 12 2:42. and people wetzel needs to get tougher if he is going to be a good bball player. he hasent proved n e thing yet and in my opinon he sint all that hes hyped up to be. also edmond is the only good player on that team. since he is such a good shooter he has the potential to carry that team all by him self.
Hey August 12, 2010 11:49 PM .. how in any way did I bash any player? I said the kids decent.
And your stats are terrible. You say that Fasca didn't get as much time as other guards. Corbeil didn't start! He wasn't even the first guard off the bench! That was Wint.
So even though Fasca had .6 more assists than Corbeil last year, he got many more touches per game.
EDMOND 5 ASSIT A GAME. He only had 2 turnovers a game, He should improve on his assist to turn over ratio pounding the ball inside to Bown,Wilson and Harras they will realyy step up this year. Also look for McSHANE to avg around 10 points a game..............
No but you're a joke. Ohh yes! I defiantly agree that Fasca won't get as many assists per game. NOT! Fasca is better the Corbiel end of discussion. I don't think Wint and Corbiel will be better then Brad and Todd either. They actually have experience on the court unlike Wint and Corbiel on the bench thanks to Zach Richardson. Huron has only 6 upcoming juniors and 1 sophomore, and they had a couple good JV guys but I doubt they're going to be anything better then average. It's jsut not enough to replace Zach and Stockert.
I've watched milan open gym and this junior 5'7 pg julian from Ypsilanti manhandled Cj Turnage. He attacked + got it down low and swung it to duffin for some nice assists. he hit a couple of threes way behind the arc. around college range. Milan is going to be exciting to watch.
It's funny how Milan has 5 transfers from ypsi and ypsi lincoln and no one says a word but if this was cc they would be ready to throw them out of the league.
Its funny how this new pg julian manhandled cj turnage at open gym when cj has not been to any open gyms...Cj Turnage & Andre Duffin is the two best in the league this year hands down!
My friend told me about this blog. This is Julian btw. I went to one open gym early august but besides duffin there were only jv players present.im friends with turnage and neely outside of basketball. They were away on camps for pointguard college and cj was in indiana. Im not really focused on basketball atm. Im focusing on preparing for this cross country season and cutting my time down from last season. ~Julian Robinson~
Milan will be the best team in the league no question about it. They have Andre Duffin, CJ Turnage, Julian from ypsi, Jiles neely from lincoln, and a new center who is 6'6 from lincoln. I saw them at open gym and i've heard julian and Andre have chemistry because they are related. Duffin was catching alley oops an it was a sight to see how good julians defense was and ability to see the whole court. I cant see anyone defeating Milan with ease this year and Im a recruiter.
So everyone wants to hate on milan? Its juts people from other teams mad because their team doesnt have any talent. You people need to get a life. And the idiot who posted Coach Tropea's name and said robinson transferred back to ypsi really has no life (he played last week with them in fall league)
Yeahh, all of us other schools are jealous of Milan because we had to go recruiting to make our team better. How did you know that man? You're like a psychic... haha, not. Blogs are for talk, prove it out on the court against these other schools man!
It's going to take experience and chemistry to win the Huron League. Just because you guys have been playing together for however long your fall leagues been, doesn't mean anything. A lot of the schools have kept the same players who've been together since their freshmen year practically. It'll take more then being together for 1-2 months. Just saying.
EVERYONE AT MILAN PLAYS AAU TOGETHER ON ELITE TEAMS (MICHIGAN MUSTANGS) ACTUALLY VERSUS "COMPETITION" THESE OTHER TEAMS COMPARED TO MILAN WILL BE A JOKE THIS YEAR!
How about you save your talk for the court. Right about now you have half the teams in the Huron League that really want to beat you guys and shut your mouths. So save it for the court, thanks.
Half the teams? All the teams should want to beat Milan and any school other than their own. Do you really think the teams/players in this league don't want to win it all. No matter how much you debate or talk it up the game is played on the court and we'll all see what's out there real soon. I really find it amusing that so many bloggers think that parents move their kids for high school sports...and why Milan? Haven't they been historically bad in bball? Wouldn't parents move their kids to the historically better bball schools in the league, if this were the case? Students transfer for more important reasons than sports...believe it or not...better academic opportunities...better support...job transfers...location...FIT...etc. Student is the first word in student-athlete. There's not a player in this league that's going to the NBA but lots of them have an opportunity to get a free college education. Look in the mirror people...
SMCC Basketball. They will be alot better than most think. Coach Windhams second year and we have some players still working hard... They will be ready to roll. I think its.
SMCC Riverview Huron Milan Jefferson Grosse Ile Airport Flat Rock
How will Milan do in the HL this upcoming year?
ReplyDeleteGut feeling is that Milan will end up in third place.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to have a good team, starting with the sophomore pg, and center.
ReplyDeletesecond to RV
ReplyDeleteKowalski and Stewart should dominate this year.
ReplyDelete1. Huron
ReplyDelete2. Riverview
3. Milan
4. Flat Rock
5. Grosse Ile
6. Airport
7. SMCC
8. Jefferson
#4 and #5 spot could go either way -
Huron will not be #1. There's just no way with the lack of height. What other talent does Riverview have besides Stewart and Kowalski?
ReplyDeletelol SMCC 7th Can I put a wager that they finish in the top three.....No worse than 10-4
ReplyDeleteTo: August 5, 2010 9:55 PM, 4 and 7 mixed up
ReplyDeleteI give SMCC top 4 at most.

ReplyDeleteBetter Senior Combo Back Court?
ReplyDelete1. Nick Corbiel and Jesse Wint (Huron)
2. Todd Fasca and Brad Stewart (Riverview)
3. Tim Sassack and Rob White (Grosse Ile)
Add this one to the list. Shinevarre and Wetzel.....Enough said
ReplyDeleteWon't Shinevarre and Beste play the guards while Wetzel plays a point forward type?
ReplyDeleteChris, no Beste isn't really a guard. He just shoots 3's. It'll be Shinevarre and Wetzel.
ReplyDeleteI like the Riverview combo, Fasca is my pick for breakout player this year. He will lead the league in assists.
ReplyDeletenumber two group.
ReplyDeleteto bad smcc isn't going far this year:/

ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_FAwMxeq9I
It's sad Milan had to go recruiting. Hopefully the transfer rules don't have to make them sit out:(
ReplyDeleteRECRUITING OR NOT. MILAN BIG REDS BACK TO BACK DISTRICT CHAMPS. MILAN WILL BE HURON LEAGUE CHAMPS
ReplyDeleteonly people that have to sit out is robinson and the 6'6 center
ReplyDeleteYeah, if Riverview doesn't pass the ball and keep up their fast-pace offense then they'll fall to Milan.
ReplyDeleteYou think Riverview will be Milan's Biggest Competition?
ReplyDeleteUh, why wouldn't they? They have height and a very well built back-court. Others that can compete with Milan would be Huron and SMCC.
ReplyDeleteSMCC? I highly doubt that. Im thinking Huron will be more competition than any other teams. No matter what MILAN will come up on top.
ReplyDeleteThats for sure cc will be horrible
ReplyDeletelol. Milan will be the news of the huron league for the next 3 years
ReplyDeleteYou're insane Huron has no one else!
ReplyDeleteI meant Riverview, Milan, Huron, and SMCC will be the top 4 in the league.
1.Milan
ReplyDelete2.Riverview
3.Smcc
Rumor is that Milan got a few more transfers? Can somebody clarify that?
ReplyDeleteThey have 4. neely robinson. a sophomre and the center.

ReplyDeleteno one on the team has played at the middle school.
