I listed 10 players to look out for. Most of them have solid resumes already and from what I have seen these guys will have good years.
I get out enough to see the league teams and I am almost certain I see more AAU and summer games than anyone who follows the league.
My travels this spring/summer have taken me to Toledo, Adrian, Woodhaven, Romulus, Garden City, Detroit, Ypsilanti, Southfield and Lansing. How far have your travels taken you?
Posey is about the only player with any sort of significant playing time who is coming back. The Jets were a senior laden squad who will rely on inexperience to get them through the season. So much inexperience that I would only be guessing when it comes to names.
I will say that I would expect the Behrik kid to play after taking a year off and I wouldn't be surprised if freshman Scotty McCormick didn't end up on varsity at some time during the season.
im pritty sure i have seen brennan throw down a couple times with no problem. All the up coming juniors will do nothin besides scotty and gross ile had a nice looking junior also but cant rember the name
Boy Chris, as time goes on and I'm reading your posts both here and on the football blog, you seem to have gone from a pretty nice and calm observer to a pretty cocky and self promoting player. Is that what happens when you're almost famous?
I agree with the top Three. But from there its a toss up. I do like Brennan from Huron to be around the top 5 and Wetzel from SMCC to crack the top 10.
Sorry to come off that way. It isn't intentional. I think what may be happening is that the blogs are kinda boring right now because of the time of year and I don't have much to write about.
During the seasons I can write something different every day. If someone is critical of something I wrote. I ignore and prepare to write something else. Right now I don't have that luxury. I
Once again sorry if I come off wrong that isn't my intention.
Wetzel is almost 6'7'' Brown is 6'5'' Harras is 6'4'' Wilson is about 6'1'' And they have the best point guard in the region. They should be very solid with a better than average bench.
to 1021 come to open gym tonight at 7 at smcc and bring 100.00 to see if he he 6'6. 6'1 3/4 as 9th gr. 6'5 last year. 6'6 1/4 after physical last week. 2 inches taller than his brother. Chris you can come to
Oh yeahh, everyone knows SMCC is going to be amazing. hahahahahaha. They definitely do not have the best point guard in the "region" either, and those guys are definitely not that tall. Nice tryy, thanks for the laugh thoughh:D
Who needs to bust out tapes when you got the stats..
Brad Stewart (R) Points Per Game: 20.5 Assists Per Game: 1.9 Steals Per Game: 1.1 Rebounds Per Game: 1.2 Field Goals Made: 133 Points for the Season: 431
Other notable players being; Rob White (GI), Tim Sassack (GI), Todd Fasca (R), Jes Wint (H), Andre Duffin (M). (No order) That's just league and some of the many.
Yet SMCC is in a league with Riverview and Grosse Ile. So that would put them in the same region!! But for clearification what region were you taking about? Hmm , is that just the Monroe area? I would still say that you are wrong, if you are talking about just the Monroe region. Are you including Milan or Huron in that region? If so, I hate to burst your bubble but Wint and Duffin are better. Wetzle can shoot, but ball handling is suspect at best. But we have about 5 or 5 and 1/2 months to wait to see the truth.
Here is the deal when people say "the Region". They are talking about teams that fall into Monroe County. Huron, Milan and Flat Rock all have parts of their school district in Monroe County. They are always covered by the Monroe News because of that fact.
Obviously Grosse Ile and Riverview aren't in the Monroe County Region.
Okay Chris, I guarantee that GI and Riverview will do better then SMCC. Secondly, This is the "HURON LEAGUE BASKETBALL BLOG" not the "Monroe News"... so how about SMCC go talk about how great they are on their own page or something, since they have enough time in their day to come on and write about how great they are in their "region". Huron will do way better then SMCC. So they're the "best in their region". Finally I conclude with the simple fact that that person from SMCC said nothing about SMCC winning the Huron League, oh well. You know that's sort of the whole point of the "Huron League Blog", hence the name.
if i may add a comment... huron will be second at best, same for milian (unless they learn how to shoot a jumpshot). Riverview will be first. huron's luck (all they had last year) will be gone, and sqeeking out one point victories is over for them. im not even from riverview either, (Airport), which hence i will say good luck D......
Sorry bud but luck doesnt make you go undefeated in the league. Clutch and luck are not the same, but you may be right in that some of the late game talent will be missing from the New Boston Village.
sorry bud. but luck does make u go undeafeated in the league. richardsson got LUCKY when he hit that 30 footer aginst airport. huron got LUCKY when richardson went up for a layup and tyler baker fouled him and the ref called it intentional which gave him two freethrows and the ball. HURON WAS NOT CLUTH AT ALL THEY WERE LUCKY IN ALL THERE CLOSE GAMES.
Same thing with the Riverview game where Zach Richardson went to drive for a lay-up and they called the foul and gave him the basket when no one touched him and Riverview was up 2. So there was a lottt of luck.
Haha the Huron haters are out in numbers, but to be honest as an alum I love it. We used to be the haters and the only people who even cared about Huron enough to dog on us were the Rams from across the tracks. Now we know what it must have been like for CC and football =) Luck favors the bold and the talented and the fact is that at least for last year Huron was the most of both.
Finally someone brings that huron vs cc game up! hes good but he is overrated, he had 5 or 6 turnovers in the 4th quarter when huron made that huge comeback
That was as much the coache's fault as it was anyone elses. You try playing PG the WHOLE game against the Huron pressure. He was left to dribble up the court by himself many a time. Dont base your assessment on a player over one game. He had a fantastic season and will again this year.
I'm not sure how old these people are. It is tough to keep anything quality going 6 months prior to the season starting. I think for the most part people have been civil.
No, not alot you can do Chris. I guess it is up to those that post to not be so childish. Seems like more HS kids post on the basketball site vs the football.
Are these in any particular order?
ReplyDeleteYea, numerical:)
ReplyDeleteYou're missing a lot of other people in the league that are going to be good:) Get out there!
ReplyDeleteWhat tourney's have you gone to this summer?
What grade is Andre Duffin in?
ReplyDeleteDuffin will be a junior.
ReplyDeleteI listed 10 players to look out for. Most of them have solid resumes already and from what I have seen these guys will have good years.

I'm sure Turnage, Wetzel, Sassack and Wint could be on that list as well. I'm not ready to throw any JV players from last year on that list.
ReplyDeleteChris
ReplyDeletewho do the jets have returning? i know they had 9 seniors last year.
Posey is about the only player with any sort of significant playing time who is coming back. The Jets were a senior laden squad who will rely on inexperience to get them through the season. So much inexperience that I would only be guessing when it comes to names.

thanks for the reply.
ReplyDeleteDont they have another tall big Center coming back?
kyle johnson... isnt the tallest, but lets just say hes big. decent post moves and jump shot, but too slow and hesitant
ReplyDeletethere is no way Devaun Posey a guy who barely played last year should be over 2 starters like brennan and Cottongim
ReplyDeleteJuly 8, 2010 @ 11:50 is right.. none of them should be up there at all!
ReplyDeleteThere are Juniors more deserving.
can brennan and cottongim dunk with no regard for human life....didnt think so. nuff said
ReplyDeleteReally? Who are they? Why don't you list them?
ReplyDeleteim pritty sure i have seen brennan throw down a couple times with no problem. All the up coming juniors will do nothin besides scotty and gross ile had a nice looking junior also but cant rember the name
ReplyDeleteBoy Chris, as time goes on and I'm reading your posts both here and on the football blog, you seem to have gone from a pretty nice and calm observer to a pretty cocky and self promoting player. Is that what happens when you're almost famous?
ReplyDeleteChris any idea who is the tallest player in the huron league this upcoming season? Are there any others that could possibly have breakout years?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the top Three. But from there its a toss up. I do like Brennan from Huron to be around the top 5 and Wetzel from SMCC to crack the top 10.

I LOVE the Jim Rome attitude you have. Its your web site and you take loads of crap you don't publish. So I support you and your comments
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteWho are the tallest in the Huron League?
I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteCome on man, I thought you did your research:p
ReplyDeletePeople get a little freaked out when I go up to them with a tape measure.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I guess you can say that, but if their tall wouldn't you just be able to spot them out on the court?
ReplyDeletewetzel 6'6 guard brown 6'5 harras 6'4 wilson 6'2 smcc starters
ReplyDeleteI don't think these guys are that tall. I would would say they are all an inch or so shorter.
ReplyDeleteur dumb wetzel is NOT 6 foot 6 in.. maybee 6 foot 4 in
ReplyDeleteWetzel is almost 6'7'' Brown is 6'5'' Harras is 6'4'' Wilson is about 6'1'' And they have the best point guard in the region. They should be very solid with a better than average bench.
ReplyDeleteUnless Wetzel grew about 3-4 inches since i have seen him there is no way he is 6'7" trust me i played against him.
ReplyDeleteto 1021 come to open gym tonight at 7 at smcc and bring 100.00 to see if he he 6'6. 6'1 3/4 as 9th gr. 6'5 last year. 6'6 1/4 after physical last week. 2 inches taller than his brother. Chris you can come to

ReplyDeleteBust out the tapes and Name a better Guard
ReplyDeleteWho needs to bust out tapes when you got the stats..
ReplyDeleteBrad Stewart (R)
Points Per Game: 20.5
Assists Per Game: 1.9
Steals Per Game: 1.1
Rebounds Per Game: 1.2
Field Goals Made: 133
Points for the Season: 431
Other notable players being; Rob White (GI), Tim Sassack (GI), Todd Fasca (R), Jes Wint (H), Andre Duffin (M). (No order) That's just league and some of the many.
i have GUARDED wetzel and there is not a chance in hell hes almost 6'7.. unless he grew 3 or 4 inches in 4 months.. doubt it.
ReplyDeleteto july 11 11:05, you dont kno what your talking about because riverview and (GI) arnt even in our region. That just shows how much you know
ReplyDeletei would take brad stewart over shinavarre all day. and wetzel is not that tall.. Garentee it.
ReplyDeleteto all them SMCC people. Wetzel and brown and Harras. it dont matter how tall you are when u aren SOFT in the Paint.
ReplyDeleteYet SMCC is in a league with Riverview and Grosse Ile. So that would put them in the same region!! But for clearification what region were you taking about? but Milan is better then huron so huron is not the best in the region. idiot
ReplyDeletetwo words- Andre Duffin
if i may add a comment... huron will be second at best, same for milian (unless they learn how to shoot a jumpshot). haha, I agree with July 14th 2010 at 10:59.
ReplyDeleteIt was luck, or just by chance
Same thing with the Riverview game where Zach Richardson went to drive for a lay-up and they called the foul and gave him the basket when no one touched him and Riverview was up 2. So there was a lottt of luck.

ReplyDeleteyou should do a team by team analysis
ReplyDeleteAnalysis based on what? I've still got 4 or so more months to figure out my analysis and then provide it to everyone.
ReplyDeleteplayers if you have Rosters, thatd be sweet. but it'd probably take forever.
ReplyDeleteEdmond Shinavarre is overrated. How many times did Wint steal the ball from him at CC? At least 5 maybe 6 times.
ReplyDeleteMVP at Rick Bollis Blue Chip camp in Kentucky is not overrating Edmund. Have you ever been to this camp?
ReplyDeletePlaying at a camp is a lot different then playing in an actually Huron League game.
ReplyDeleteFinally someone brings that huron vs cc game up! hes good but he is overrated, he had 5 or 6 turnovers in the 4th quarter when huron made that huge comeback

ReplyDeleteWow I thought the football blog was bad.... Chris, do you have a bunch of 5 year old's posing on here?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how old these people are. It is tough to keep anything quality going 6 months prior to the season starting. I think for the most part people have been civil.
ReplyDeleteDo you think I should be censoring more?
No, not alot you can do Chris. I guess it is up to those that post to not be so childish. Seems like more HS kids post on the basketball site vs the football.
ReplyDeleteWho would win 1 on 1 out of Edmund/Brad/Duffin?
ReplyDeleteJust curious of what you guys think!
duffin with ease...
ReplyDeletei agree Duffin all the way
ReplyDeletedo you think duffin could ply college ball?
ReplyDeleteBradd all the wayy!
ReplyDeleteb stewww all the wayy no one can d him up
ReplyDeleteDUFFIN!
