I stopped by the Woodhaven summer league today and was able to catch some of the Flat Rock/Riverview match up.
The Rams appear to be young and undersized but look like they have some quickness and athleticism. The Bucs looked pretty solid behind the play of Brad Stewart and Mike Kowalski. They have plenty of size and athleticism and will be you typical Riverview team this year. They hammered the boards and really look to play the passing lanes.
I'm not sure what the final score ended up. Flat Rock led at halftime but Riverview pulled away and seemingly won by double digits.
On another note, the game was officiated by former Airport coaches Ernie Sellers and Spencer Roecker. The two looked in mid-season form and appear the have the makings of a good solid officiating unit.
Woodhaven Huron League Overview
ReplyDeleteRiverview - Look like the HL Champs this season.
Milan - Will contend, but will fall short because of their lack of shooting. The league will continue to zone them until they figure out how to shoot.
Flat Rock - They will miss Scarton and Connor. Not much depth. They will finish in the bottom 4.
Grosse Ile - Look much improved over last season, but will end up in the bottom 4.
Chris,
ReplyDeleteI was planning on heading down to the border war between Lenawee and Monroe Counties but I noticed there were only two Huron League players playing. I find it hard to believe that Richardson, Stockert, Jones and Baker aren't playing. What is up with that?
League Fan
I'm not sure how the teams were chosen. I would say that there are some quality players playing for Monroe County. Those players must have something else going on. I would think that Richardson and Milan's C.J. Luvene would have made the team for sure.
ReplyDeleteOn the girl's side, I'm surprised that McKenzie Kudron, Division I signee isn't playing in this game.
Once again though those players may have scheduling conflicts or something.
Daniel Jones has the state alstart game practice and game going on also he is playing again for the Blissfield legion team.
ReplyDeleteTyler baker probably has baseball too.
Stockart i think playeed in the monroe county footbal allstar game.
Riverview looked really tough at the Woodhaven Summer League games. Due to the Varsity Baseball team in the state quarter finals, they played 4 games that Wednesday. The following day the team was just flat out tired.
ReplyDeleteI was impressed with Flat Rocks athletisim and speed. Yet, I feel that their youth will lead them to a bottom of the pack finish.
I also would have to agree with the 1st anonymous post, Milan will be zoned to death until they can shoot the rock from outside.
Grosse Ile looked tough too. They may suprise alot of teams this year.
I will stick with my earlier predictions for now and will reevaluate them after the summer leagues have concluded.
I believe Milan played last week without Duffin and Lewis. Duffin is easily their best player and best outside shooter. I'm not surprised that they weren't as good without those two playing.
ReplyDeletehuron just destroyed carlson and flatrock got destroyed by carlson so it might be a long season for the rams
